It seems that Obama thinks that he is the reason Fox News is successful. At least that is what he said during the O'Reilly interview before the Super Bowl . Source is:
Unedited: Obama takes credit for Fox’s ratings, O’Reilly zings we were fine without you - BizPac Review

Let's take a look at this in a couple of ways, using Obama's words that "he" made them successful.
    So:
    1. If it was Fox News bringing up the controversial news issues that concerned the Obama administration it must mean that people wanted to hear about them thus their success.
    2. If Obama is the main reason a network is successful or not. What happened to MSNBC, Obama's biggest cheerleader.
    3. Obama is so thin skinned and narcissistic it is understandable that he said it.

Fox News is successful because people don't want truth in reporting, or just news; they want entertained and their biases fueled. Just like pretty much every other American news source.

I doubt that the Narcissist-in-Chief was responsible for the astounding success of 24. Fox was just smart enough to air it. That and other shows made their "news" department viable.

This also explains the success of MSNBC, NYT, etc, etc.
Information gets tortured any time it's filtered thru a biased source.

FOX is most likely successful for a variety of reasons, few of which are flattering to either FOX or its viewers. It was conceived of by a tabloid owner, Rupert Murdoch, and implemented by a Republican political operative, Roger Ailes. Neither man had or has a high regard for telling the truth.

I think one reason for FOX's success that is often overlooked is it is attuned to the conservative psyche. Conservatives do not want facts so much as they want judgments. Moral judgments, confirmations that their values are valid and true. And some conservatives -- not all but some -- prefer those judgments to be made in the context of demonizing those who disagree with them. For instance, poor people cannot just be poor people, so far as conservatives are concerned. Some conservatives go further to demand that poor people must deserve to be poor. They must be lazy, or worse. For those conservatives, the world is seen in a fearful, angry, emotional, moralistic way. FOX understands that. FOX gives it to them. And FOX is successful in part because of it.

So the abject failure of MSNBC to attract viewers is a sign of their moral integrity and high journalistic standards? Seriously?

That isn't what Obama seems to think. Care to comment on that vice voicing an opinion on why Fox News is popular. Or is it you do not want to make Obama look bad? That is the subject of my post.....Obama says he made Fox what it is.

Maybe after Obama leaves office he and Al Gore can get together and swap stories how one invented the internet and the other how he made Fox News the success it is.:D

The lack of a sense of humor on the Right is hilarious! You guys can't even tell when the President is playing you. Jeebers! Reading your response to that interview just made my day.

Fox news has a lot of avid watchers that dislike Obama even to the degree of hatred in some cases. Nearly 90% if not more of their efforts and reporting during election season was all directed at Obama and how bad he was. They tied in Obama to things that had nothing to do with him.

A good example of the reaching that they reported on was when a few soldiers had died from green on blue shootings a few months before the elections Obama sent a letter he wrote personally to each of the families of the fallen soldiers as well as attending a memorial. However they emphasized how bad of a president he was because he didn't go personally to the mother's house of one of the victims.

So... the obvious political bias that fox news has always portrayed has been mostly directed at Obama. Though if Obama hadn't been there it simply would have been whatever other democrat they would be trying to outvote.

Based on your explanation, my reading of the situation would be that it's some harmless banter, and at some point people need to understand both humour, and the reason for him to answer the question in the manner in which he did.

However, I hadn't seen the interview. I watched the linked clip so as to get my own opinion. Gotta say though, it hasn't changed.

It doesn't seem any different or less valid that if Bush had said something similar to Stephen Colbert.

Here's the logic: "oh, you have no respect for Fox News? That must mean you're into MSNBC, because the only reason I can think of that somebody would like a network is that it conforms to their political ideology, and if you don't identify with mine, you must identify with the other one. Because there are only two political ideologies: Mine and liberal. What's the liberal version of my station... Hmmm... I hear MSNBC has a lesbian on it. And I think even one of those newfangled 'progressives'. I will change the subject to the shortcomings of MSNBC. That'll teach that filthy liberal for criticizing MY network..."

They make up their own issues and none of it is based on facts. The fact the propaganda works tells me all I need to know about their audience. Their viewers want to hear anything negative 24/7. Scandals are manufactured to meet this demand. Not our fault that their viewers aren't given the facts. They apologize for nothing under Ailes.
Fox is successful because they don't report news. They spin it. They are very very good at what they do. Ailes ain't a dummy.
Ah, the narcissistic line....... More spin and propaganda.

This is spot on. Every time someone says something against Fox...we have at least one person bring up MSNBC....as if we all on the left watch MSNBC.....

It was done in this thread. Someone said something about FOX, because that IS in the topic of the thread, then almost immediately someone chimed in trying to make a comparison when that comparison has nothing to do with the OP at all.

Hmmm seems to me that Obama blames FNC for quite a few things.
Obama Blames Fox News For Unpopularity Of ObamaCare | Independent Journal Review
Obama blames Fox News for IRS ‘scandal’ » The Right Scoop -
Obama blamed troubles on Fox News, book says - Mackenzie Weinger - POLITICO.com

So, you really think he was joking. Obama presents himself as one that does not take criticism and tends to lashes out at anyone that does question his performance. No, Obama may have been grinning on the outside but he was fuming on the inside. He did not want to address the majority of the questions and he attempted to change directions. Obama is not used to confrontation from the media. The majority of the time he gets fluff ball questions directed at him or questions that support him. I know you think different, so be it. I hold him in very little esteem as a policy maker and leader and I will continue to point out what I perceive as what he is, and that is a poor President, and will continue do so until he leaves office.

He takes the criticism very well. His opinion is his and he's entitled to it.

You don't know this. This is merely your assumption. This isn't the first time he's done an interview with that idiot. If he was fuming so much as you assert then one would expect him to never have done an interview with that troglodyte ever again.

Because all the questions in that bufoon's compiracy playbook has already been asked and answered ten times over.

Yet he stands in front of the media periodically answering questions at the White House by more than one reporter at a time...many of them left and and many of them right leaning reporters..."come on son"...!

And how is that his fault?

Well, this is the forum culture after all, ie, the Foxphobes (who see this news source as a singular evil responsible for all that is wrong with Americastan) & the non-Democrats (who get accused of racism or believing Fox's "lies" for being anti-Obama). And MSNBC is the archetypical anti-Fox. So the battle rages on.

Don't forget us non-Democrats who recognize that Fox News is a highly-biased source of info-tainment which many people mistake for actual news, and which is the most popular of these info-tainment outlets by a large margin - and, thus, the effects of which deserve particular attention and skepticism. I assume you're not one of those ridiculous people who oversimplify people into two, opposing groups.

Ya know, if someone watches Fox because they want to be entertained, I can understand that. Or if they watch Fox because they want to hear opinions that resonate with theirs, I can understand that. But if anyone watches Fox thinking they're actually getting news, they need to go back to kindergarten and start all over again.
