Storm stick? You dont want to be carrying a brolly in a stormAlso, storm stick vs umbrella, lorry vs truck, flat vs apartment, and torch vs flashlight
And tappet (more obscure, unless you are a petrolhead).
Recognized the cockney slang for deals and stairs. The latter came up in a cryptic crossword last week! Why can't them Yanks speak the Queen's bleedin' English, gawd blimey, jellied eels, apples an' pears, etc.
Oh, for a nice scone with Devon cream and jam! It's been ages!Buttered? What's wrong with cream and jam (thats jelly in americanese)

@columbus's ilk are also prone to wearing chaps....& nothing else.An excellent list, my dear chap...
Oops another one. "Chaps", in the US are, I understand, some sort of (vaguely gay?) leg thingies, made of leather, that cowboys wear.
We have jam, which is slightly thicker than what we call jelly. What you call jelly we call gelatin.Buttered? What's wrong with cream and jam (thats jelly in americanese)

In fact the tappets are/were the cylindrical cam followers on an OHV engine, not the rocker arms, but even mechanics commonly used to speak of "adjusting the tappets", when what they meant was the clearances between the pushrods and the rocker arms. And you're right that OHC engine today don't seem generally to have cylindrical cam followers any longer. As I recall, there are all sort of funny designs, some looking like half a clothes peg, which are far harder to lubricate, as they can't rotate like an old tappet so the wear is always in exactly the same spot.I know it but not seen since the ohc engine
The Brits usually write day/month/year, ie in orderYear Month Day makes the most sense, then the whole number is correctly arranged to show temporal flow. Any two dates can be compared, the larger number is the later date.
There ya go.Knickers.
