And who decides which sins are too bad to be forgiven and which aren't? Some people might say murder is unforgiveable; others wouldn't. I remember once when I was a child, one of my friends said that a certain spirit (one that should never have anything said against it, according to Christianity) "wore combat boots." Does this mean that she cannot be forgiven, ever? Exactly what line is drawn on exactly what can and cannot be said? And who draws that line? A pope with more flaws than you find on yard sale castoffs? What about the people in the 1500s who were "damned" and excommunicated because they stated that the earth moved around the sun? The "holy" people who damned them were just as positive then as someone might be now when they think that they know, for certain, which sins are forgivable and which aren't.
I don't think that any religion should be spouting anything other than an admonishment to do kindness to one another. Love each other, be gentle to one another, be kind. Don't worry about someone joking about combat boots or some silly, stupid thing. It is my opinion that most religions have altogether too many rules, too much dogma, and not enough true godliness.
As far as people being afraid to judge, I disagree. I think there are altogether too many people who are more than happy to judge others. That's the problem with the world. They walk around proudly displaying how good they are and giving their opinions on the badness of others. I don't think they're afraid. They should be...but they aren't. There's altogether too much judging done, and not enough acceptance of diversity.
Although I do agree that some sins are terrible, like murder, I am not (nor is any other person on Earth) smart enough to decide which of these people will go to hell and which won't. They can be judged, but the only punishments for those judgements are mortal and Earth based. Leave their eternal judgment to God, and do not presume anything. The only thing I want to do with such people is to make sure that on THIS Earth, they do not harm anyone else. Keep the world safe from those who would prey on others, and leave the rest to the next life. Peace.
