Having read the two articles, I can't say I'm sure that you really did. Yes, we could say, as you put it, "there are only two genders," but you are glossing over something more important in the context of this particular topic, is that, even as Dr. Soh almost acknowledges ("masculinization of the brain") but the articles don't fully explore, is that as human beings, we have both sexually dimorphic bodies, but that our brains are also sexualized. And here's the missing bit...the research suggests that sexual differentiation of the genitals occurs separately from sexual differentiation of the brain in utero, making it possible that the body can veer in one direction and the mind in another.
So yes, while there are still "only two genders," what does it mean when they both occur in the same person? Which "gender" are you really? The one you think you are, or the one your body says you are? I would suggest, actually, that those who have a "spiritual bent," really should be paying more attention to the emotional self than the physical, since they say they believe the former will last forever, and the latter turn into dust.
