Thanks once again for posting a purely emotional argument including personal attacks. Sad.

Agreed. Same goes for men who decide to stay at home and let the wife bring home the paycheck. It's their choice. All science can do is note the instances of this or compile statistics on how couples (regardless of sex) arrange their lives.

It seems to be an obsession with you , so I was wondering why. In the name of science of course. There has to be a reason why you dislike them so intensely

I don't dislike anyone based on their sexual preferences as long as it's legal. Why do you think I dislike transgenders or have anything against them?

Because this thread serves no useful other than to spread hate. You must have a reason why you created it.

Then when it comes to this issue, her opinion being that it is not science means jack ****.

Disagreed but obviously you are so emotionally wrapped over the topic there is no way to have a logical discussion without you devolving into false accusations and personal attacks.

Oh, dear Lord. Maybe you should read some of the articles before you post them as proof that you are justified in your sick hatred

An excellent article covering both the background of Dr. Soh and the reasoning behind her thoughts on transitioning young gender dysphoric children.

The Unspoken Homophobia Propelling the Transgender Movement in Children - Quillette
...I grew up as a straight woman in the gay community, at a time when homophobia was rampant in North American society. I witnessed the harassment and ignorance that my friends faced on a daily basis. Most, as a result, hid their sexual orientation from anyone outside of the community, and few were openly out to their families.

Although things have definitely improved since then, discrimination against gay people still exists. And as I’ve watched as glowing stories about transgender children have flooded every progressive news outlet over the last few years, every one of them appalls and saddens me. Because the underlying story that the public isn’t privy to is that many of these children would have grown up to be gay, but are instead undergoing a new form of conversion therapy.

It’s okay to let your transgender kid transition — even if they might change their mind in the future https://t.co/QcsX3bkZpz
    — Vox (@voxdotcom) October 22, 2018

Conversion therapy seeks to change a person’s sexual orientation. No mental health professional in their right mind conducts this type of therapeutic intervention anymore, because it is understood that sexual orientation is immutable from a very young age. Gender identity, however—whether someone feels masculine or feminine—is flexible in prepubescent children and grows more stable into adulthood.

Therapy that seeks to help gender dysphoric children grow comfortable in their birth sex (known in the research literature as the “therapeutic approach”) has been conflated with conversion therapy, but this is inaccurate. All of the available research following gender dysphoric children longitudinally shows that the majority desist; they outgrow their feelings of dysphoria by puberty and grow up to be gay in adulthood, not transgender.

Another link about the politicization the science regard gender dysphoric children:

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/transgender-kids-documentary-1.4453667
...Indeed, across all 11 studies conducted on this topic, including research published in the last five years, about 60 to 90 per cent of gender dysphoric children grow up to be gay in adulthood, not transgender.

Zucker's approach was not about "curing" transgender kids or conducting "reparative" or "conversion therapy," as some of his critics contend. Rather, it was about recognizing that it simply doesn't make sense for a child to undergo the challenges of a social or physical transition if they are likely to grow comfortable in the body they already have, on their own

Having read the two articles, I can't say I'm sure that you really did. Yes, we could say, as you put it, "there are only two genders," but you are glossing over something more important in the context of this particular topic, is that, even as Dr. Soh almost acknowledges ("masculinization of the brain") but the articles don't fully explore, is that as human beings, we have both sexually dimorphic bodies, but that our brains are also sexualized. And here's the missing bit...the research suggests that sexual differentiation of the genitals occurs separately from sexual differentiation of the brain in utero, making it possible that the body can veer in one direction and the mind in another.

So yes, while there are still "only two genders," what does it mean when they both occur in the same person? Which "gender" are you really? The one you think you are, or the one your body says you are? I would suggest, actually, that those who have a "spiritual bent," really should be paying more attention to the emotional self than the physical, since they say they believe the former will last forever, and the latter turn into dust.

Good questions. Do you have any links providing answers?

BTW, emotions are just chemical reactions in the brain. They are the animal part of human beings and will die when the body dies.

I prefer Yuval Noah Harari's explanation of emotions as being the "output of algorithms" in the brain.

As to links, it's a complex topic and there are a lot of places to go. If I get a chance, I'll try to provide you with some that I am aware of in a day or two. Just can't get to it right now.

Did he also say that animals had those same algorithms?

No worries and no hurry. For now, I'll just take it as your opinion.

Yes, actually, he did. I think Harari's three books are incredibly worth reading (Sapiens, Homo Deus and 21 Lessons for the 21st Century)

Because the assertion that gender is not a societal construct relates to public affairs. You are erroneously asserting a falsehood that would imply it is incorrect for people to advocate on the grounds that gender is, at least in part, a societal construct.

You have even objected to "politicizing" which in itself is politicizing. You are advocating for your point of view. Nothing wrong in just that. However, you point of view is not internally consistent.

Re Us and them: i am not sure who us and them are. I only said that your post smells of it.

The "72 genders" thing started on Tumblr, if I recall correctly. Most of those terms are just different words for varying degrees of androgyny. Much of this confusion is caused by certain people confusing gender identity with gender expression. I've heard non-binary identified people say that they can't be a man or a woman because of how they like to present themselves or whatever. I think those people are confused, honestly. I do think there are people who exist outside of the boundaries of male or female/masculine or feminine. I just call those people androgynous, though. That's a very old thing and was greatly revered in many ancient cultures - to be able to transcend the boundaries of gender. They usually would be shamans and priests/priestesses.
