So what's the difference between sex and gender, then? Are we talking gonadal vs. hormonal? Hormonal vs. genetic?

Note also my emphasis on gender identity rather than "gender" (I do so for the very reason that "sex" and "gender" are typically used interchangeably). When we are talking pronouns and gender roles within society (which we are since the original post discusses political ideologies), then we are talking identity, which is socially constructed. It may have biology as a basis, but once we discuss roles and pronouns we are in the realm of sociology.

To me, these two ideologies are in conflict. I can understand why many feminists feel that transgender issues are incompatible with feminism.

That's more about identity. Identity is a social construct. That is complex and I can understand being more than 2 versions of.

But genetics determine the physcial/biological gender. XX or XY with the .05% being slight variations. So there are only 2 biological genders plus the very rare anomalies which don't fit into either category solidly.

Agreed. We can discuss the social constructs such as whether or not a woman's place is in the home (Hint: it's not) but the science on the subject is straight forward. Claiming that a man who likes sex with women but likes dressing up like a woman (or for the Brits, an infant) doesn't make the man a different sex or "gender". He's still a heterosexual male.

Trasgenderism has always existed since the ancient times. Since the ancient Romans and back then there was no medicine, no safe surgeries...the 90% of people who would undergo surgeries used to die by bleeding out.

Disagreed but thank you for affirming a stance on faith and against science.

Why some people here are posting a bunch of woo about Soh being against transgenderism is interesting but also sad. It's a further indication that people are operating on emotion, not logic despite their claims to the contrary. The trait ot putting emotion over logic is, IMO, there really disgusting and hateful thing here.

Don’t treat all cases of gender dysphoria the same way
....Children presenting with gender dysphoria, whatever the reason, deserve to be treated with love and compassion. This includes adolescents for whom transitioning is deemed the best way forward, should alternative approaches be ruled out.

But by taking children's words at face value, the adults in the room are denying them the help they need. The goal of successful policy and medical treatment should be to improve the lives of those who are struggling, not to pat ourselves on the back for being open-minded and progressive.

I think they are right but for the wrong reasons. Sure, the Universe appears chaotic but it always moves and reacts in accordance with established laws of physics. The big caveat is that we don't know all of those laws or other mysteries such as the true nature of Dark Matter and Dark Energy.

Agreed Transgenderism has been around for all of human history. It's rare, but it's always there. I recall several years ago that gays didn't want to admit that their sexuality was partly genetically based. They wanted to say theirs was a 100% matter of conscious choice, not nature. Why? Because if it was genetically based, then at some point it could be "cured". Is there any doubt that over 90% of the population are heterosexual? That the remainder identify variously as LGBT?

Both the gender feminist and transgender movements are operating with good intentions — namely, the desire to obtain the dignity women and transgender people rightly deserve. But it's never a good idea to dismiss scientific nuances in the name of a compelling argument or an honorable cause. We must allow science to speak for itself.

She may simply be misled. She is very young. She has just earned her PhD. Once again by her own words she is not a foremost expert in the field, that was a false claim by the OP.

I am far from an expert in this area of science, but I know that one does not base one's acceptance of a scientific claim on the work of one person. Especially when that person is not supported by the actual experts in the field. It is extremely ironic that the OP is accusing others of his crimes.
