what sort of a question is that....?

A pointed one.
Not very nice, are they?
didn't you say you wouldn't put truth on a pedestal above hope and love...?
See, one of the nice things about atheism is that you don't have to care what your celebrities say.I agree that hope is not exclusively connected to religious faith, but it's antithetical to the cynicism and misanthropy touted by atheism's celebrity figures.

What, don't you know hope and love when you see them?

Those are some pretty unfounded things to say.Hope to children? The atheist worldview is toxic to the souls of children.
That's as far as I got then my head exploded.Okay, so it's been a while since I've posted a thread and I'm not sure how this'll turn out, but anyway I have a few simple questions:
Does the perception that your belief(s) (or lack of belief) is true make you happy about your belief(s) or does the happiness you get from your belief(s) (or lack of belief) lead you to percieve your belief(s) as true...
but that the tricky part isn't it? as far as hope is concerned...that has nothing to do reality- it's s desire for something good. and as a person who values truth, love is known by experience, if you're in a relationship.
if you want to be in a relationship you hope and if you look at love through hope...i'm not so sure that's being realistic...sure it's nice and fuzzy...but is it real...how do you know it's real....?
In a very real sense,
there is only what you do and don't do.
On and off. 0's and 1's.
Though I'm tired,
and rather suspect I might be a bit 'off' on that.
(ps... I was /sarcasm...re Pete's post up above. But still you're right.
I think.):cover:

Another one is that you can never misrepresent your own lofty ideals by behaving badly.

What leads you to perceive your belief(s) as true?
What tools or processes do you use to scrutinize your belief(s) and their truth value?
I wouldn't go as far to say that. I dictate just as much of my belief as much as life dictates me.
And are you being honest with yourself?
Of course I'm not expecting absolute certainty of you and your beliefs 'cause that's just absurd.

empirical truth doesn't care about your feelings. truth is hard and cold.
That is because atheism doesn't have lofty ideals.
Atheism doesn't "sell" anything.
Rather it is the position in which you aren't buying what the theists are selling.
Richard Dawkins not selling anything? :areyoucra I'd say he's just as much of a salesman as the pimple-faced Mormon missionary on your doorstep or the preacher-man on your TV. It's not very often I see an evangelist with Dawkins' verve and determination and absolute faith in what he's selling.
