Hello, I'm from the UK. Just saying hi, I guess if anyone wants to know anything about me you can ask :)

Mathematician

Reason, and reason again
I'm Gene, and I'm a hedonist. More precisely, I live life by trying to not make conclusive remarks about some mystical ethical backdrop because the universe lacks a prescription to injustice. Indeed matter has no definition for it. At the same time one could easily attribute the phrase "benevolent hedonism" to my philosophy on life as I believe that humans benefit the most as a species and as individuals when we instinctively consider the feelings of others. The more logical side of our brains is in constant competition with that part which indulges in beastly selfishness, and only through regular exercise of compassion and critical thinking can we maximize this rationality. I summarize it as the internal war, the human condition - to see past our own noses. Either we do that or we're doomed to contradict our own desires (a la Kant).

In short, I believe that it's in one's best interest to follow the golden rule but in situations where you're not harming others have responsible sex or drug use if that's fun. Pursuit of pleasure is dandy.

I've had no dramatic life experiences worth mentioning, but since a young age I've been very conscious about what I act like as a person. I'm always trying to be a nice, approachable, and trustworthy person, and I hope you noticed that I said "to be" instead of "appear." I find too often that people mistakingly confuse the two routines. Unfortunately I've been taken advantage of because of my generosity, but I persist. Friends new and old will come up to me and tell me that they made a particular decision just because they reflected on how I'd approach a situation. It's simple things like helping an employee at a grocery store who is struggling with crates or driving out twenty miles to comfort someone who is on the verge of depressive mania. That warms my heart. It's my selfish ego feeling flattered.

I have a huge hunger for science, history, and philosophy. I could talk about all three subject for hours with anyone who is interested. I'm a self-identified libertarian socialist but I've become increasingly apathetic about political affairs. I love to read, write, and socialize around some drinks.

I'm a physics and social studies double major. I plan to teach high school science in a year and I'm completely enthusiastic. I want to purchase my own house, find a good wife who will share a passion for responsibility and what's deemed "irresponsibility," raise a small family, see the world, and help children become critical thinkers with confidence to take on the problems that await.

Been away for a while so might as well do this.

I'm currently a SAHM to two children: Jamie 4.5 and Kaitlyn 2.5. I am a former helicopter AT for the US Navy. I've held many different types of jobs both technical and clerical and even delved into restaurant work for a bit. I like to write and have several book ideas and one I'm actually working on...on and off. A sort of fictional take on my own life experiences. Should I ever really get it done and published I'll be sure to put word out here. Well, if it's any good :p no need to embarrass myself.

As the little religion title denotes, I am Wiccan. I don't avidly practice, adhering to every Esbat and Sabbat with finely tuned rituals (though I do have a nice collection of them all written out - I said I like to write :p ), but do what I feel I need or want to when I feel I need or want to. The beliefs remain though. I guess I'd describe them as I do on my PaganSpace: an amalgamation of Panentheism, Polytheism, and Neoplatonism. Here is my PaganSpace page if anyone is interested: Draka's Page - PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community Not much there, but the music's nice ;)

Anything anyone wants to know...just ask.

You've been around forever, but we've all forgotten that 2-line blurb you wrote about yourself the day you joined RF. Your posts are insightful, touching, informative, uplifting and clever. Okay, once in a while they are puzzling and annoying! Sometimes they make us wonder what kind of a person is sitting at the keyboard.

We want to know more about you -- now that we sort of think we know you. If -- and only if -- you have met any of the following criteria, you are invited to re-introduce yourself on this thread:

1. Been a member for at least 8 months and have at least 2400 posts to your credit

Please refresh our memories. Who are you and where are you from? How old are you? Are you male or female? Are you married or single? Straight or gay? Catholic, Wiccan, Jewish, Muslim or something else?

Okay, a lot of that stuff is on your profile, but a lot of other stuff isn't. What makes you happy? What makes you sad? What are your pet peeves? Do you have any hopes and dreams you'd like to share? What are your hobbies and interests? What kind of work do you do? What are your favorite movies, books, places to visit? What's your favorite food, your favorite color, your favorite time of year? Do you have kids? Pets? You get my drift...

We want to make this a fun thread where we can all get to know one another better. We also want to make posting on it a goal some of the newbies can set for themselves. Would one of our illustrious admins care to make the first post?
Ok, now that I have 8+ months and 2400+ posts, I'll go.

My name is Carolyn, but I prefer Lyn. I'm almost 23. I enjoy debating politics, ethics, and religion, and I enjoy other subforums like random general discussions or entertainment, so that's why I come here.

I'm a vegetarian, an engineer, a martial artist, a writer, a skeptic, an atheist, etc. I was raised liberally Catholic, but transitioned away from it when I was in my early teens. I had some difficult times when I was younger, including a lot of poverty, but things are easier now.

I guess I'll answer the other questions from the OP:
Where am I from? United States
Gender? Female
Relationship Status? In a relationship
Straight or gay? I'm mostly straight.
Religion? I don't have any religion.
What makes me happy? Massages.
What makes me sad? Human suffering.
Pet peeves? My biggest pet peeve is clutter. Physical clutter, job clutter, paperwork clutter, etc.
Hopes and Dreams? I want to give millions to charity. First I have to make millions, though. I'm working on it.
Hobbies and Interests? I do a lot of exercising and some sports, debate politics, ethics, and religion. I spend time investing, which includes reading through a lot of company annual reports. I like spending time with my partner.
What kind of work? I'm an electronics engineer.
Favorite Movies: The Matrix, Dark Knight, Fight Club, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Lord of the Rings, Fifth Element, Gladiator, Cowboy Bebop, Avatar, Pirates of the Caribbean, Wristcutters: A Love Story, Harry Potter series, etc.
Favorite Books: The Demon Haunted World, by Carl Sagan, the Myth of Sisyphus, (an essay), by Albert Camus. The Bhagavad Gita (a lot of it I don't like, but some I do, and it was influential for me).
Places to Visit: There aren't that many places I like to visit.
Favorite Food: Vegetable Stir Fry
Favorite Color: I like purple the best, probably. And pink. For decorative purposes I like the colors of wood.
Favorite Time of Year: Spring or Fall, because the environment is not painful or uncomfortable.
I don't have kids or pets.

methylatedghosts

Can't brain. Has dumb.
Ok, I've definitely met the criteria for posting here! Haven't been on regularly in a very long while, so here's me.

Hi!

I'm methylatedghosts. I enjoy things, and - and - I know stuff. I believe some things, and I don't believe others. I am not too old, only a year older than this time last year. I would like to be someone in a few years and will be kicking off my plan fairly soon. I have friends. Sometimes we do things together. Other times, I do other things by myself. Gives me a chance to think about stuff.

Anyhow, enough about me - lets get posting.

I have found a new path! I experienced an awakening and I now live from the Heart and not the mind!

no g_d necessary
no sacred writings
no churches
no temples
no mosques
no synagogues
no gurus
no dogma
no fear

Just Love!

However! If you choose to follow a g_d or g_ds then that is your right to do so! You must follow what feels right for you.

For me religion suffocates and stifles and blinds the Soul! I gave it a try when I was 18 and it never felt right for me. So I investigated many different paths, and at 51 I have found my path!

Live from the Heart and not the mind. I have no need of sacred writings, priests, dogma, or anything attached to religion.

I meditate and I chant. I am where I am. You are where you are.

Namaste,

ntdl

Well, I guess now is the perfect time for a re-introduction.

The (user)name is xKatz. I have been more of a "regular" in the past, but with college, I have been very busy. I've been part of this board for about 2-2.5 years. I enjoy talking about religion, philosophy, metaphysics, politics, and etc. I am open to other people's perspective and I do enjoy learning about other people's spirituality. If you are college-bound, and interested in Michigan State University, I am the guy to talk to. Nice to see new and old faces here :)

Hewwo....again
(background voices say, "Hello!)

My name is Rakhel and I have been a user of RF of a little over 3 years. I am the mother of 6 children(I know. I know.), 4 girls and 2 boys. All ranging in the ages from 20 to 1. I am happily married to NetRexx(I would prefer calling him yosi...something about the name "netrexx" just .....)

As my religious states, I'm not your average Jew and I can legitimately state, with absolute certainty, that I am Sayton's grandchild. MWHAHAHHA

And just to answer questions before they are ask... Sayton is his middle name.
I could not make that up if I wanted to. Though, I am pretty certain that he had hoped that his drill sergeant was during basics.
