She sat out the anthem in protest. Her teacher said ‘go back to your country,’ students say

Ah now we are starting to get on the same page. It's their right not to stand but then others should have the same rights to call them out and tell them to go back home but the problem is it doesn't work that way.
A teacher doesn't have that right though.
Imagine the chaos which would ensue if
they could castigate students for political
expression they disagree with.

People disrespecting a piece of cloth and a song are more “right” than someone attacking an individual who is standing in front of them, yes.

And that's it. As you just said people "disrespecting" a song or piece of cloth(American flag) is disrespecting many Americans and those Americans have the right to speak out.

It’s a personal attack - not a general protest. It’s their right, but they are still jerks for exercising it.
Disrespecting the flag or anthem is a personal attack on Americans.
They just as well say your flag and anthem sux and means nothing to us even though we live here because now our life is better than it was.

If the one speaking out is a teacher, & does
so with a vile insult against a student, the school
has a right to give that teacher the boot.

Everyone enjoys their rights...everyone wins.

IMO the teacher was out of line but if you left your country to live a better life here, claim citizenship here, go to school here and receive free aid here,,, then show some respect and stand for the anthem. Evidently life wasn't good for you before you came here.

If one should choose to go live in another country because where they live sux, expect to live the ways of that country they go to.
Or don't, protest and change the system for the better. :) Eff people who think migrants shouldn't be allowed to think there are things in the US that should change and participate in the same freedoms the rest of the country have, including protests, to enact change.

Especially change like compulsory displays of nationalism for kids which is gross and unnecessary.

I wouldn't try to be outspoken if I were an immigrant. You would..? o_O

I wouldn’t be less outspoken than I wanted to be.

I'd be very, very careful... I guess that's me being a good survivalist, from millions of years of survivors.

...I gotta wonder how some people made it this far.
