I did the research; Now you help me get the word out (BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!)

The World’s Largest Oil Reserves By Country

Proven oil reserves are those that have a reasonable certainty of being recoverable under existing economic and political conditions, with existing technology.

10. United States - 39,230 million barrels
9. Libya - 48,363 million barrels
8. Russia - 80,000 million barrels
7. United Arab Emirates - 97,800 million barrels
6. Kuwait - 101,500 million barrels
5. Iraq - 142,503 million barrels
4. Iran - 158,400 million barrels
3. Canada - 169,709 million barrels
2. Saudi Arabia - 266,455 million barrels
1. Venezuela - 300,878 million barrels
The World’s Largest Oil Reserves By Country

the above adds up to---- 1,304,838 million barrels

The total worldwide oil consumption was 93 million barrels per day (bbl/day) on average in 2015 according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
List of countries by oil consumption - Wikipedia

93 million a day X 356 days = 33,945 a year

1304838/33945 = 38 years left then ALL gone!!!

Here we go again. Heard the same thing in the early 1970ś, only the time was 20 years.

I have it on good authority that the world is ending in 12 years anyway.

We can make synthetic oil. I use it in my car. Its made under high pressure and temperature. We'll have no problem with lubrication. We may run out of gasoline though. In that case they'll start making engines to run on ethanol/hydrogen/propane. Another possibility is that cars will run on electricity, or we'll get electric trains going. Something will have to take the place of autos. Planes? Well I guess the planes will have to run shorter range or be replaced with dirigibles and rockets.

We may have trouble with rubber, since rubber trees are clones and are all sensitive to the same blight. We may run out of cheap copper. Even now its getting expensive.

Also the climate is changing, and the ocean plankton are not thriving. Oxygen levels are actually decreasing in the air. If that continues and speeds up we won't make it to 38.

With the rapid growth rate in solar cells etc, the "if this goes on" projection ignores changes already under way.

Looming Problem: World out of oil in 38 years
Possible solutions: (a) Invest in horses as long as the weather allows; (b) Invest in camels when the climate gets too warm.

People on the climate change agenda are getting us to where we need to be even though there is nothing, we can do to alter the natural wobble in the climate cycle; yet this trend helps, so don’t block this debate, the results is the same.

The “green new deal” also accomplishes the same in the end.

Lubricants and rubber are minor problems. The real problem is the concentration of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. The greatest contributors are animal agriculture and fossil fuel usage, though tundra outgassing is catching up.
Also the climate is changing, and the ocean plankton are not thriving. Oxygen levels are actually decreasing in the air. If that continues and speeds up we won't make it to 38.
Good point. Oxygen's a pretty reactive gas, and doesn't stay around long without bonding with something. It needs to be continually replenished, but with deforestation and oceanic pollution/warming/acidification the major sources are under threat
Yes, industry is pouring money into the extractive industries, and getting more efficient, as it scrambles to wring all the money it can out of this resource before regulation and the clean energy competitors upset the applecart.

Abundance isn't a good thing. It's the problem.

Many years ago, maybe 20, I was floating around on sailboat with a buddy, Steve.
It was a sultry, near windless, afternoon. It wasn't a good choice for a sail. We got deep into the beer cooler and politics and philosophy.
Steve asserted quite confidently that civilization as we know it would be over in 11 years at best. He knew that based on "sources".

So, I tossed my empty beer can overboard. He kinda freaked out. Big burly construction dude Steve squealed like a little girl, "You threw a beer can into the lake!", as if I didn't already know that. I pointed out, "The lake is deep, there's no way anybody could toss enough beer cans in 11 years to even scape the keel."
He was not amused, and pushed me off the side of the boat to retrieve the can.

Oil reserves are not like measuring the volume of a puddle. They are based on flow rate, ease of recovery, ease of refining, market demand. Its sort of an art form. Its an economic guesstimate that also take geopolitical obstacles into consideration.

Peak Oil was a political propaganda piece in its day. The US couldn't compete with cheap ME oil and they were trying to get the American public to accept more imports.

Oil men all over the world howled with laughter.

We're not running out of oil. Darfur and Yemen have hardly been touched.. Likewise Libya and Afghanistan. Lots of places have not been explored for petroleum.

We have gotten more efficient in the us of crude and we are diversifying energy sources. I think we'll see more and more use of gas, solar and nuclear power which will also free up petroleum for gasoline… which won't get cheaper.

Zaki Yamani who was the oil minister of Arabia and a family friend said.. "The stone age didn't end because we ran out of stones".

Oil just becomes more and more difficult and destructive to procure, but the oil companies want to wring everything they can out of the existing infrastructure.
Alternatives will tip over the whole apple cart. They know this, which is why they're so desperately scrambling.
