Something Is Fishy About What Conservatives Are Saying

Are you kidding? My husband dictates nothing or at least he tries to and I just nod and pretend to agree (stops arguments before they start). I spend most of my away from him and his constant TV watching. I have invited my husband to join- he won't, but he is almost opposite of me on almost anything, too, so it would be interesting.
I wish I had some useful advice to offer.
I don't even have any bad advice for you.

Christine, most Republicans today are radicals. Moderate Republicans are no longer elected to national office in any numbers worth mention. If you want to find Moderate Republicans, you have to look for them at the local level, not the national. So, what Conservatives are saying today is far more radical than what they used to say 40 or 50 years ago.
I should have paid attention to politics. It may have helped me in my vote in November. As it is, I will just have to take my chances. I don't hate Obama like my husband does- if I decide to vote for him again, I will have to lie- to keep peace in my home. The past four years, my husband has said to me "You're the one who voted for Obama", every time we have a disagreement about anything. I don't want that repeated It seems no matter what we talk about, it goes back to politics. :)

"to keep peace in my home"?

Maybe you should start watching Divorce court?

OK, I might have some useful advice. Avoid politics entirely. Don't discuss candidates, just issues & goals.
Partisans will try to steer it back to friend vs foe, but stay the course. When I avoid making politicians either
good or bad, & just discuss shared goals, it helps Mrs Revolt fail to notice what a obnoxious political extremist I am.

......snip..... Since I never watch MSNBC (my hubby refuses), I don't know if the left pulls these kinds of stunts, too. I would watch CNN, if I could. As it is, I only read the headlines on the internet.

I am not a liberal and I am not a democrat, and I am not a republican. Right now, I can't find a political party.

The idea that "...well, both sides do this, so you just have to take them both with a grain of salt." or "..., so it doesn't matter who you listen to.". are memes that one will only hear from the conservatives. You will also find the righty broadcasters disparage the centrist fact-checkers as "left wing radicals who will stop at nothing to discredit our good name", etc...

The centrist news agencies (ie. " radical zealot left-wing socialist communist moonbats") like NPR and Huffington Post will often mock and deride right wingers and their ideas, but usually only after explaining how the ideas (in context) are mathematically, economically, historically, and/or legally infeasible. So No, that's not the same as the unsupported filth that spews from the lips of Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Fox News, etc....

If you are really interested in the unadulterated brainwashing the your hubby is undergoing, then drop by Media Matters for America some time to see through the lies. But beware, you will be disturbed and frightened. :cover:

P.S. - Good luck.

My wife and I have vowed to never discuss religion and politics...which is probaly one of the reasons I come here to RF. :D

Hah! And they largely spare their own from such keen analysis & mocking.
What a novel idea of centrism this is.

To be honest I have never come across a centrist news organization in my life. Though many in the USA try to play this card instead of being honest. I prefer various European news outlets that just let you know their politics form the outset without all the pretending. Then I like watching Russia Today because they let loonies rant and rave and pretend it makes sense.

Does BBC count as a centrist news org.?

Heck I don't know. I find myself wanting to watch both the left and the right these days. I tell myself it keeps me grounded...:(

They are fairly balanced IMHO and one of my go to news outlets. Perfect? No but a tad bit more even keel than most American organizations. I find most American News groups aren't even about news anymore as much as they are about vapid entertainment and rampant speculation over various events. Biggest thing that drives me nuts about CNN they allow that drunkard Jane Velez Mitchell to rant and rave over every little thing and especially her pet issue "The War on Women.":cover:

I used to be a CNN fan back in the day. Maybe I didn't notice it then but they seemed to be more balanced and I loved being able to get and idea as to what was going on around the globe. Now CNN is starting to get like the others. Our news is being delivered by a bunch of bloggers....:(

It definitely feels that way. The only thing I really watch on CNN anymore is Anderson Cooper everyone else on their network grinds my gears.

NPR is about as radical as watching National Geographic, or Science Friday with Ira Plato.

HuffPo has solid central articles of good and factually backed journalism....but I will grant you that the comments, and their blog pieces can (sometimes) stray to the left.

It's not useful to try to pigeonhole news media organizations in this way. Any organization who takes journalistic ethics seriously does what that can to maintain political neutrality, represent a wide range of opinion on any issue, and make a good faith effort to base their reporting on accurate information. Of course, there are a couple of outlets who are not interested in journalistic ethics at all (naming no names ;)) who are nothing but a platform for disseminating propaganda on behalf of one political party. They're easy to spot if you follow a few authentic news networks as well.

So, BBC counts as a network that takes journalistic ethics very seriously, like the CBC, Al Jazeera, the Guardian and Haaretz. Of course, to some, any effort to represent multiple points of view at all is "liberal bias".

Yeah, I care more about ethics than slant. I can't help quoting Colbert, though. Say it with me, "reality has a liberal bias!"

A study done of NPR showed that it had many more conservative commentators on it than liberal commentators. Of course, today's conservatives think anything to the Left of Genghis Khan is communist.

It wasn't always that way, but it sure is now! Conservatives these days are living on another planet entirely. Even Ronald Reagan would be considered a morally corrupt "tax-and-spend" liberal and a socialist these days. He raised corporate taxes, supported abortion and praised unions.

Why Ronald Reagan Would Not Lead Today
