See: MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan calls out Republicans for supporting 'fascistic' future PM of Italy (yahoo.com)

We have seen much the same, such as with CPAC's cheering on Orban, who also is fascist leaning. Same with some other such leaders. And why won't Trump denounce Putin even when given the opportunity, such a just a short time ago when Hannity set him up? Why doesn't this seem to bother most of his followers?

As a student of the Holocaust, I find this trend very disturbing, and I don't understand how people who supposedly love democracy and who supposedly believe in Jesus can go along with this? It seems that some have a death wish, not only for democracy but also for Christianity itself.

The Holocaust shocked everyone, including most Germans.

First of all Republicans don't generally love Jesus. They are not a church. Republicans are a fusion of smaller parties. Republicans promise churches that they are on God's side. That is very different from loving Jesus or democracy.

I think that when Italians watch this video from this British journalist, they will be more and more convinced that voting for Meloni was the best thing they have ever did throughout the last 75 years.

Some people believe in only the self-serving form of either. This has been brewing for a long time, going basically unnoticed and not taken seriously by most of us. Who would believe such a bizarre possibility? Not unlike a cancer festering beneath, unnoticed until a 'stage four' presents itself. Well this may be stage four and critical measures are called for. There is little or nothing we can do about Italy and other countries who go this route, but if we in the USA don't wake up soon the once impossible may be quite possible.

I would like to tell this excellent British journalist that in Italy, a traditionally socialist country, it is rightful and holy to condemn financial speculators.
Because it is not operations that the law okays.

The left is so keenly aware of dangers from the right.
    (And vice versa.)
But when they want to silence speech, discriminate
by race & gender, have warrantless searches, etc,
etc....they never notice their same tendencies.

Yes, we gotta keep those Republicans in line.
They are indeed dangerous. But they're not alone.

I used to be deeply puzzled and disturbed by this myself, but the answer has become abundantly clear at this point. They don't love or believe in either. They mouth those words to get people to believe in them, and those who have no solid foundation of either faith or understanding democracy fall prey to them and are swept away.

Jesus taught about this in many ways, not building your house on shifting sands, etc. "By their fruits you shall know them," not by their Christian bumper stickers and American flags and NRA memberships in the name of Jesus. This is not Christianity.

They have a lack of faith in God and seek for power from political powers. It's not Christianity, but Christian Nationalism. "Christian Nationalism is Not Christianity"

I gleaned two things from this. One is that you have no real understanding of Republicans. The other is that this is further proof that the intellectual ammunition of the left is exhausted and they are getting desperate. When a group is reduced to ad hominem attacks it is telling. Baselessly calling Republicans and conservatives names is a losing strategy.

Salvini is called a Nazi and a fascist, but he intends to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The contradiction of certain narrative that is starting to sound slightly annoying.

So have they seriously forgotten what they did to Mussolini? I am very curious because it would so bad for so many people that Mussolini had a nasty end to his nasty life.
They threw themselves behind this before, and ened up abducting him--and his mistress--shooting him and hanging the body on display. Have you collectively forgotten this?

So why don't Reps resoundly and collectively condemn those like Putin and Orban instead of praising and supporting them?

Yes. Because he had promised peace and yet he dragged the country into WW2 so Italians felt betrayed by him.

But the Republicans don't love democracy. They love white, Christian hegemony. Democracy was fine as long at it kept generating white Christian governments and majorities, but it doesn't work once people of color and people with no religious affiliation are the majority, and so, the Republicans have no use for it anymore.

And in case some have not noticed, Christianity opposes Americanism in several places, and would replace American values with Christian values wherever possible if it could. There's no freedom of or from religion in Christianity, and no church-state separation or secularism of any form. There is also no democracy in the Christian vision of government. God wasn't elected, doesn't take surveys, or count hands. In heaven, nothing is negotiable, and there are no compromises or appeals. And the church has the same attitude. It has no interest in what fraction of Americans want legal abortion, or whether they support same sex marriage, or how they feel about sex outside of marriage. It only matters what they believe Jesus thinks.

Neither the Republicans nor the church have any use for democracy or majority rule. Each thinks it needs to suppress other opinions.

Which is not happening. Where is the Democrat that wants to nationalize everything - nowhere.

There are some who do attack speech - so to that point, it does happen. Discrimination for some is redressing historical bigotry and discrimination for another.

Actually the British journalist spoke about Meloni, and pointed out that American republicans endorsed her as if it were a crime.
So, since it is about my country being misrepresented, I have the right to speak.;)
