My Opinion On Congressman Weiner

This should be between the husband and wife. If he gets reelected fine. If not, so be it.

I don't care what he does, but I do have a problem that he lied about it.

What is very telling is, if this man was a Republican, people would want him gone pronto.

My question is: Is there a difference in acceptable standards in office between Democrats and Republicans?

I could be wrong here, but I think the difference is that while most democrats aren't obsessed with "family values" and the like, many republicans are. It's more hypocritical when the republicans do it - in fact, many of the sexual "scandals" are committed by the same republicans who condemn others for such acts. This makes it funny.

What seems so disturbing to me is how this guy, a congressman, was so comfortable in lying to the media and the nation. This is one of the reasons why I don't trust politicians.

And another thing, we are the ones who elect these people. Therefore, they are social servants, but after time it seems the "power" we gave them seems to corrupt them, and they develop delusions of grandure to where they think they have power over us. If this culture of corruption continues to evolve, which it will, the people must rise up shouting "revolution"! "Revolution"!! The question is, though, have the people become too sheepish?

Xeper!

For those of you who think this is just the media blowing an private matter out of proportion, do you think that sending pictures of your genitals to a stranger on the Interweb is acceptable behavior? Is it nobody's business when something like this comes out about a public figure, utilizing a very public platform to pursue his or her own private ummm... shortcomings?

Personally, I don't think this could have happened to a more deserving fellow. Weiner is an A**h**e, with a capital A... but at least we have now have proof that he has some balls. :)

His wife is pregnant, the local Imam...well not local. The Imam of the big mosque in Manhattan has advised her to stay with her husband, and (this is slightly ridiculous) Hillary Clinton has lambasted Wiener because it is an embarrassment to her. Not the wife. But the Secretary of State!

I honestly couldn't give a rats a** that he sent the picture. Buy lying about it is the problem. If he had just fessed up to begin with, I think it would be less sensationalized than it is.

It doesn't help that the media is more focused on garbage like this than real issues, IE Debt ceiling, climate change, economy, etc.

I'm confused, was he sending pictures to random strangers who had no other contact with him, or were these consensual sexual encounters?

He sent several to a porn star, and one, sent accidentally, to someone else. As to whether the actress sent any back, neither are saying. She, however, put on a good, tearful, act about how much she didn't like the pictures and didn't want to see them, but didn't know how to make him stop, and yadda, yaddah, yaddah....
The one who got the accidental tweet immediately put a stop to it by reporting it to the police.

It was consensual. Supposedly some waitress or dealer or something at a casino in Vegas.

Bill Maher read the text trail between the two on his episode of Real Time last friday. It was most definitely consensual . He even had the help of Jane Lynch posing as the girl during the reading.

It was pretty graphic, but honestly no ones business. He just shouldn't have lied about it.

Randy Rep. Anthony Weiner has finally stepped down.
After informing House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi and other key party leaders of his decision, Weiner made the announcement this afternoon during a news conference in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.
"Today, I'm announcing my resignation from Congress," he said.
Several hecklers shouted at Weiner -- with one calling him a "pervert" -- during the brief announcement.
Weiner, 46, had called Pelosi and Rep. Steve Israel, who heads the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, at the White House picnic last night and told them of his decision, a Democratic Party leadership aide said.

Shame he had to lose his job over something as stupid as a picture of a penis. From what I read, he was quite a pitbull in congress. Never really followed him much. If he had come out at the beginning and said he had done it, perhaps he wouldn't have had to resign.

I don't think this warranted a resignation, though. When you compare a picture of a penis to the 11 ethics violations committed by Rangle, it just doesn't add up.

Some are concerned with ethics; most are really only concerned with sexual ethics.

And I'd be willing to bet the ones making the most noise about this are the religious right wingnuts.
I disagree. Even the President said he would resign if it where him.

Ritalin, I don't know if you realise this or not, This has not become a partisan issue.

Another bipartisan issue has been the war in Libya. For some reason both parties have started working together for a change.

This country has some serious issues that need to be resolved and it is about time people started working together for the common good.

I see then, it was ridiculous to call for his resignation. The only thing he did wrong was lying, and if that was worthy of demands for resignation, we'd probably lose the majority of our congress.

While it's good that both sides work together on issues, it just seems laughable to me that so much attention was wrought on this particular issue. This is just another reason I hate the media. They are becoming more like supermarket tabloid journalism every day. More concerned with peoples personal life than real issues in the country. Look how much coverage the Casey Anthony trial gets. Some girl (Allegedly) kills her daughter. While tragic and unfortunate, so what? Why is that worthy of so much air time? As if she is the only person to ever be accused of this crime. The only thing sensational about this particular case is its a female on trial. If Casey were a guy, you would likely not even know who he was. IMO that does not constitute 24/7 coverage.

Anyways, a tad off topic there, but just trying to make a point.

I'm appalled at the mere suggestion there might be something like sex anywhere in America. Are we no longer the pure nation of our immaculately conceived forefathers and foremothers?

I'm celebrate. So, I know I'm doing my part. What about you?
