Bear in mind that staff who post on the forums don't necessarily post from the viewpoint of being staff members. For instance, I personally don't care much about a "Men's Issues" forum or the like, but I did say in this thread that I support it if enough members want it:

So, it's not really helpful or productive to make assumptions about the intents of anyone, especially when you take one post from one person and assume that the whole staff must be sexist because of it. "The staff" is pretty diverse, and you can't really tell what all of them think based on just one post.

Actually it's not. The forum has separate owners and we're all basically just doing this as volunteers.

    Thanks man.

It could easily go into Social World as a Green DIR, could easily go as a private forum that allows anyone to join for the discussion. There are a few equitable options.

Well since the staff are showing up for interesting posts... While you all are here what would it take to get any of you to vote for a new Male Rights Activism directory? A desire to create one from members? A showing of a need to have a "protected directory?" More "male issues" in the threads on the existing boards? Nothing? Just a solid argument for one?

Have you been reading the threads in the DIR? They're about half and half.

Here's the thing I see about all this. There has not been a big movement on Men's rights because men granted rights. It was assumed that they had them already. Even among men, you are a man and have all these rights. What are you fighting for?
Then came the feminist movement. And while it is good and does fight for the basic rights of the woman, it did take away some of the rights of the man. So a men's rights group really would not have sprung up if it had not been for the woman's movement.
What would a separate forum for men need protection from?
The "boo-hoos" and the sarcastic "why do white men need anything?" comments that have been floating through this thread.
The idea that some have been afraid of the backlash that would come from posting certain topics.
It would allow comfort from sarcasm and a place to post on topics that would otherwise devolve into a cry of "you hate women"
Now if you can't trust the men of this forum to post in a sensible manner, then why have them on the forum in the first place?

Of my main interests is that it is green.

I would prefer MRA as a name, but I am not terribly concerned for the label.

That makes sense to me. As Favlun noted, it isn't a well established political philosophy like the other sub-forums in the political world. I still think it should be the Man Cave or something similar, since I think "MRA only" would put people off contributing. I think that label has an even worse reputation than "feminism." ;)

The reason the Feminists got a DIR is because all their threads were derailed and they needed a sanctuary.

Men can feel free to start a thread on any issue they want. I don't believe they have been or will be harassed like some of our members in feminist threads where.

    Alceste,
The problem with calling it "Man Cave" or similar would give the wrong idea about the DIR. The existence is to discuss political issues regarding men. I've never seen politics discussed in any "man cave".

We could always call it Men's Interests Group, if not Masculism.

But, seeing some posts in this thread has made me think we need one far more than we actually realize. Men in society have issues that are ignored, and when brought up, frequently dismissed or ridiculed.

I think the area should probably be purple accordingly. That or blue. But not green.

And, I do think one can be a feminist and masculist at the same time. The only thing that concerns me is the possible hijacking. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

What makes you think green would be a bad color?

Don't forget the lap dances. I'm so there if lap dances are a part of a new forum.
