Resurrection of the dead is when soul-man becomes spirit- man (1 Cor. 15).
I believe this is it:
John 3:3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Natural body is soul body in Greek, so, it soul nature into spirit nature psychic into pneumatic .resurrection of the dead is when the natural body becomes the spiritual body. See 1 Cor 15
I think the spiritual body is also a soul.Natural body is soul body in Greek, so, it soul nature into spirit nature psychic into pneumatic .
I think the spiritual body is also a soul.
Psa 49:15, Acts 2:27
According to Paul soul body must transform to spiritual, 'natural' in Greek means soul.body can go both ways either to material body or to spirit body, whole 'fight' is about where soul body would go. Think about Prodigal son story. Younger son represents soul body and elder one - spirit body and spirit body never left the fathers estate.I think the spiritual body is also a soul.
Psa 49:15, Acts 2:27
I think Jesus was referring to the person having to change so radically so as to be able to enter into heaven, that they may as well have to be reborn from the womb and live their life all over again....in the worldly person's understanding.
The worldly minded person would have great difficulty understanding the Holy Spirit's ability to suddenly radically change a person into a child of God.
The so called 'soul' is just another name for consciousness, when the body dies end of story, imo.
Just out of curiosity.

Seeing there is no where in the Bible about being a born again christian.

Does consciousness refer to simply being awake and aware. Or is there something more than that?
Yep. We are like the beasts that perish, says God. I would also agree that there is no living immaterial existence.Consciousness, which is driven by the brain means being aware of what is going on, when we die that is it. There is no evidence that once our body dies our awareness continues in another realm.
There is no evidence for the life of a person outside of a body..Death means to be dead.I am not defending the New Testament nor attacking your lack of understanding of all the secular evidence we have of life outside one's dead body. Our evidence confirms the teaching of the New Testament. Understanding and accepting the evidence brings one closer to the New Birth or 'born again' experience.
How about John 3:3?

Rabbi Yose said: 'One who has become a proselyte is like a newly born child.' Talmud, Yevamot 48b
Being 'reborn' is an idea that Judaism applied to Gentiles who converted to Judaism. They had to be immersed in a mikvah that contained 'living water.' When they emerged they were considered to have been reborn as new creatures.
Additionally, a Jew was reckoned as Jewish if their mother was a Jew. (Based on Ezra 10:2)
I can imagine Nicodemus' confusion. 'How can I convert to Judaism? I am a Jew by maternal lineage!' 'Can I enter my mother's womb and be born again?'

2 Corinthians
5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
There are many other verses but it is that if you believe in Jesus, you will start a new and different life because you will leave your sins behind, although no one can be perfect, and begin to live a life with goodness and love.

Seeing that Nicodemus was well known in and about the old testament scriptures.
And that the new testament scriptures had not been written yet, at the time Jesus and Nicodemus were speaking.
So your using the new testament, scriptures will not work.
So let's back up to John 3:1-10, Jesus and Nicodemus speaking about being born again.
Nicodemus knew it far deeper than baptism, if what Jesus was replying to, was in reference to baptism, Nicodemus would haved understood that, seeing that in the book of Leviticus speaks about water baptism.
And that Nicodemus was will known in and about the old testament, scriptures.
So Nicodemus understood what Jesus was in reference to, had nothing to do with water baptism. But far deeper than water baptism.
So your trying to use the new testament, scriptures will not work, seeing at the time Jesus and Nicodemus were speaking to each other and all they had at the time was the old testament scriptures to go by,
For the new testament scriptures had not been written as of yet.
And seeing Nicodemus brought up about the womb of a woman, Thereby Nicodemus knew and understood what Jesus was in speaking about had nothing to do with water baptism.
But about the womb of a woman.
