I don't care which side of the aisle you're on, you need to know this. Most likely you already do. I'm just double-checking to make sure.

Tomorrow, Sunday, January 17th is the kick-off day for "peaceful armed protests" (as they are being called) to begin in all 50 state capitols and the District of Columbia. Or so the protesters have announced. The Feds seem likely to shut down any group protests in Washington. I don't know about the states.

At any rate, there would seem to be a significant risk of violence erupting not only in the state capitols, but perhaps in other cities as well. I know my town is bracing for trouble and we're 60 miles south of the State capitol.

From January 17th through at least the inauguration on January 20th, be cautious and stay alert, please.

Who knows? Maybe it will all end well. But what will happen tomorrow and over the next few days is along the lines of playing with matches. It's at least something like that. Those things don't always end well, so stay alert.

Above all, don't panic. Don't even let yourselves go near that. Things seldom turn out as bad as they might. But stay alert. Besides, I call 'dibs' on panic. It's all mine now, and none of you get any. K?

If at all possible, I encourage you to remain at home, or in a safe location, and to now and then check the news during the day for what's happening. The bigger your city or community, the more I think it would be wise to be in a safe location. By the way, don't neglect the national news by exclusively focusing on the local. What happens elsewhere might be a forewarning of what will happen locally.

Sorry I don't have better advice than that. But left or right, we're all human. Be alert, stay safe, and good luck!

I totally hope when this is all over that not a word of this proves to have been necessary to say.

I am more than a two hour drive from the nearest capitol.
Thus I am not overly worried about my getting entangled in the protests.

Sounds like a pretty safe place to be. Especially if you're in a rural area or smaller city or community.

My only risk is that the possum might raid the
feral cats' food at nite. But they've never
    threatened democracy.....they're very quiet.

I have corn fields to the south and east of my home.
so we have a lot of rabbits, possums, raccoons, groundhogs, squirrels, cats and preying mantis.
    Tons of preying mantis.
the cats go nuts chasing them.

I'm going to go way out on the limb here and assert you might not see any violent insurrections nearby. But keep your eye on the next county over. That's my advice. Also, are there any streams or rivers people would need to cross to visit you? If so, burn their bridges tonight. Time to dig out those old back issues of Popular Mechanics to find useful articles on converting your root cellar into a fortified bunker. Don't forget to bring in the cat and dog tonight before you go to bed, along with any livestock such as cattle or horses you own. Got any young children? They make fearless assault troops. But above all else. Don't become paranoid! Just don't! Paranoia allows room for complacently and dropping your guard. We all need to go way, way beyond paranoia now.

You're lucky with the preying mantis population.
    I don't see many.

My advice on top of that good advice is to check online. Or if you turn on the TV, keep the sound off to avoid the fear/panic generating talking heads.

There is a media bias and it's toward sensationalizing news to get people to watch commercials and the way that works is to generate fear and panic.

I'm not saying they all do that and some are much worse, but I've found it helpful to my mental health to avoid live TV commentary if at all possible.

If one goes, remember that your phone is almost certainly a camera too. Videoing participants is appreciated by law enforcement. But again, don't put yourself at risk.

I would go, but I cannot find the camera on my phone:

We may have gatherings at the State captiol and more than likely some will be armed. Not against the law here, open carry, concelled carry legal. In addition it will be peaceful, might be a couple of idiots but that is about it.

Though better crafted, this sounds too much like the text I sent my granddaughter.

Unfortunely, I'm 45min from DC. BLM had a peaceful protest here a little over a year ago. I have no reason to go to DC but I'd probably skip the metro system maybe a year after the inauguration.

My city's always in chaos... I doubt they'll come here, as we're 2.5 hours away from the capitol, but if they do they'll blend right in and no one will know the difference.

If they bother my house, they'll be put to work scooping cat boxes.

If the protest is peaceful then why do they have to be armed?
