About sleeping

I usually sleep around 6 hours a night, occasionally (maybe one or twice a year) i have a phase of insomnia. After a couple of sleepless nights i resort to herbal sleep aid tablets.
They usually have the desired effect

In the past i have tried melatonin which left me with a wicked headache and nytol (diphenhydramine) with little effect but a stomach ache

I don't get it. o_O
How are you people getting by on 2-4 hours of sleep and still able to function mentally?
This is very unhealthy and it will catch up with you.
I am not trying to be critical of anyone, I just care about your health and well-being.

Sleep is really important. When I get 4 or 5 hours of sleep my work is impaired because my short term memory is affected. When I get 9 or 10 hours of sleep, I am as sharp as a tack. I can get by on 6 hours of sleep during the week as long as I sleep a lot longer on weekends. New sleep studies show we can make up for lost sleep in weekends and we should try to.

Meditaton is the reason i sleep less then "normal" when mind is calm it seem to not need as much sleep as a busy mind

I find that the best trick is to not use an alarm.
Sleep when tired...wake up when ready.
If ever I violate this, I feel it the next day.

I use an alarm, but rarely for the purpose of waking up. It’s set to tell me when it’s time to stop reading and get out of bed. Keeps me from having to keep checking the clock.

A very simple question.

How many hours a night do you sleep?
I have lived on 3 - 5 hours a night for decades. (My guess is that meditation gives my body the rest time it would otherwise require without the regular meditation.)

At least 8 hours. Why?
I cannot even imagine what that must be like. I think the last time I slept that long was when I was coming out of surgery. LOL.

I got rid of my alarm clock while I was still working. I noticed that for months, every day, I woke up before the alarm went off. Pulled the alarm and never thought about it again. I no longer keep a clock in the bedroom either as my internal clock is quite accurate.

Interesting responses. I have had lots of people tell me that I should try to sleep more, but my doctor thinks it is some weird quirk of my metabolism, as I am in excellent health, mentally and physically, though I could lose a pound or three. (Who can't, eh?) I do not take any medications and only a generic Naproxen occasionally for headaches. I try to eat only fresh foods and also try to follow the wonderful 100 Mile Diet as much as possible.

Excellent idea!
I use one to remind me of something time related....keeps Mrs Revolt happy.

May I ask why you put this in 'General Religious Debates'. I am struggling to find a reason why anyone other than my doctor would ask such a question, but to put it as religious???

Because less sleep happens when one dedicate the life to spiritual cultivation, the body will need less sleep the more counsious one are. and when brain is empty for unnessesary thoughts

Equally, when ones life is empty one experiences the desire to write absolute crap on internet sites.
