Up here in Canuckistan, kippers are more generally Brunswick Kippered Snacks (packed in New Brunswick). I quite fond of them. And goodness they are inexpensive -- great value for money.
Most of the ones available in Australia are from Canada. I was a little surprised, I thought it was an English thing and thought they would be from somewhere in Great Britain.

I've had this thing sitting in my cupboard for months:

And today was finally the day.

Beans.
On.
Toast.

My life is complete now.
Baked beans with a baked potato is a regular part of my diet. With lots of hotsauce.

And no Heinz beans at Safeway. I don't know why we don't have them. Maybe Van Kamp's and Bush's was too much competition for them.

Yeah, I was surprised at how amazing it was. Granted, I was using really good bread, but normally when I crack open a can of beans for eats I can only eat half the can? Nah, man, I inhaled the entire thing in one go toast and all.

The downside of all this is American grocery stores don't carry the proper beans. Because American grocery stores are stupid and stocked full of stuff that is barely even actual food. I got this can at a specialty store and it was stupid expensive because it's import here.

WHY NO TOMATO BAKED BEANS IN AMERICAN GROCERY STORES REEEEEEEEE!

The amazon one is a 24 count...

Bush's "Steakhouse Recipe Grillin' Beans" are superior.

Yes, the bread makes a difference.

There is a family in the area - refugees from the Ukraine war - that does breads and other baked goods at the farmer's market. I've been buying their stuff all season and finally got around to their plain old breads? They're as amazing as everything else, but like all good breads the go a bit stale after a couple days. Toasted, with them beans?

Yaaas.

It's exactly the sort of bread that keeps the crunch.

That’s the unfortunate thing about that type of bread so I slice it up and keep it in the freezer and use it when needed.

In the UK I'd but tins of beans for about 25p
Long time since shopped in the UK?! Heinz is typically £1.40.
Hence other brands (eg Stockwell) selling essentially the same product from 28p, are seeing sales rise at the expense of Heinz. We've long since gone over to Tesco own label or Branston. (I also suspect Heinz has undergone its own shrinkflation - it seemed closer to bean soup when we last bought it).
