Didn't Siddhārtha Gautama, the Buddha, go through about 100,000 rebirths before he reached the point where he found enlightenment?
I dont know the number, but he did go through a lot. Kinda like moving one step closer to not attaching to suffering. There's an analogy about a man shot by an arrow. He kept asking The Buddha about his injury while in pain. He asked who did it, why, how, etc. The Buddha says all of that is irrelevant. Whats important is relieving the pain first. Take out the arrow. Took him awhile to understand it. He figure we wouldnt but so far The Dharma says he changed his mind.
We'd probably go through the same. I read stories of children remembering past lives. I was never into things of that nature, NDEs etc, but its interesting nonetheless.
