Basically, we have a specific part of the forum wherein we get to know newbies, but we don't have one for those who aren't new, as far as I can remember. So I decided to come up with this thread so that we can somehow get to know each other. :)

Anyway, for those who don't know me yet, I am Baek Jo. I'm half Korean, that's why my name is like that. I'm a member here since 2008. I joined the forum out of my boredom with my high school life and interest in religious discussions. Looking back on my posts the previous years I am in here, I can say that I am a bit childish and sometimes annoying, I vent out a lot and post random things when I am really bored, which actually makes me laugh a bit while posting this, thinking of how things used to be. I've been out of here for quite long because I entered seminary school and do some personal things. Well, I didn't finish seminary. I got bored, a lot of things happened then I became 'agnostic' with my beliefs, so there, I'm now back. The reason why I keep on coming back here is that I have some 'friends' here, and I like the balance of discussion on the forum. Basically, you have a choice to debate or simply discuss both religious and non religious things right here.

My name is Joseph, 29 from the US. I'm also not new to this forum, and looking in hindsight, I said and did a lot of wreckless, childish things not so long ago. I've gained a lot of insight with age, and with finally finding my place as an atheist after a long journey.

I don't at the moment recall exactly when I joined this forum. I joined it because I enjoy discussion about many things. I still do.

Nice thread. I'm Kirran (IRL, too!), I was born and brought up in backcountry Wales. So English is my first language (my family is English-speaking, although actually I have a fair bit of Latin American ancestry), then Welsh, then Spanish. I am 20 years old. Currently in Cambridge, East of England.

Here I go:

I joined back on 2011. Sometimes I leave for a few months but I always come back, at least to read what is going on...
Back then I was a Spiritist trying to make sense of the world. As years passed by I became less and less certain about my beliefs and I ended up turning into an agnostic, and nowadays I simply prefer to say that I am an atheist.

I am a 26 years old brazilian and my real name is Raphael.

hey, my username is Laika (formerly Red Economist). I'm 26 year old guy, I live in the UK and have been on RF since the start of 2015. I don't use my real name as RF is a place for me to let go and be honest about stuff that I generally cannot discuss offline. As I'm also an ex-communist/sympathiser, there is an admittedly remote chance of getting hurt in RL for such views, so remaining anonymous is a necessary pre-caution.

I was only very breifly a (christian) theist of sorts when I was at primary school, but have been an atheist ever since. it has varied in intensity over time. Both my parents were involved in education and local politics and so I grew up talking about politics through most of my adolescence. I'd eat breakfast and "argue" with my dad on various topics. religion didn't come up much as my parents disagre on that subject (my mum is spiritual, whilst my dad is atheist, but I've never heard either one of them confirm this).
I was very intrested in Science and History at secondary school and those interested combined in my early interest in Marxism. After studying economics at sixith form, I went to study it at University and dropped out at the beginning of my second year after narrowly passing the first year after resitting about half my modules (mainly math-related). it didn't help that Lehmann Brothers collapsed about the same time, virtually making the course material redundant. Whilst at Uni, I developed an (unrequited) first bi-love on a flat mate and eventually came out as bisexual in 2013. Due to the combination of coming out and leaving university, I've had depression for nearly seven years. I have been unemployed for that time, but completed a degree (chosing modules accross the social sciences) with the Open University.
The biggest reason for my leaving university was how deeply I disagreed with the course and the fundamentally ammoral conception of human behaviour. I had a personal crisis and this meant that I became radicalised as a Communist. the first two/three years back at home, meant that the combination of being both politically radical and coming to terms with my sexuality was an ugly period when I was deeply angry with the world. One positive side effect was that I read up works by Wilhelm Reich and Erich Fromm, on sexuality, psychology and ethics which have been consistently useful and have also helped me to treat my own depression by psychoanaylisis.

My bi-crush, who liked travelling and had studied politics, visited Cambodia in 2011, which is the site of some of communism's worst acts under the Khmur Rouge in the seventies. thinking he may ask my about them, I got guilt and read up about Communism's atrocities in the black book of communism. This was a moment that changed me deeply and left me with many questions over the nature of evil. they have dogged me for the four years since I read about it. it has been a deeply confusing time with on the one hand wanting to believe that human beings can do better, whilst acknowledging just how low we can sink whilst also dealing with depression. it didn't help when in 2013, my crush became involved in selling weapons (legally) and our freindship ended (somewhat understandably) after I tried unsuccessfully to talk him out of it and came our to him over the phone. I joined RF at the start of 2015 because it was part of my willingness to discuss opinions that I would not necessarily be familar with, deepen my understanding of religion and find a place to openly question my own beliefs. I was breifly a member of the Communist Party for eight months this year but left at the start of this month. my current religious, political and philosophical views remain in question.

I've been called many names, but the sequence ended with Revolting, Revoltinger, & finally Revoltingest.
I came here with @Wirey from The History Channel (THC), when they shut down their discussion forum back in 2010.
(So I'm still somewhat new here.)
When the Pope visited the USA, he actually signed on to THC to discuss things. One poster even met him.
Those were heady days.

And I really am a yellow skinned Scottish (1/4) groundskeeper....but not at Springfield Elementary.
I maintain only my commercial properties. I've learned a bit of several languages, but can only remember one.
I like bacon. I've been a Libertarian since the 70s, a socially awkward atheist all me life.
In school in the 70s, I studied mechanical engineering, dodged the military draft (peacenik, you know), & became a weapon system designer.
Now I collect Social Security, oppress me tenants, garden, & pursue the history of technology.

I was named after the deity of this shrine in Kashmir, a very common name in India.

Such a variety of people here!

I'm a male in my middle-50s, came here in 2011. From and live in Central Illinois with my love of several lifetimes, her son, and our granddaughter, with frequent visits with my sons from a prior marriage. I teach management and policy at a large university in Indiana. Was born again as a young teenager, heavily influenced by spiritual experiences as a later teen, tried to be a good if nondeclared Christian, later became agnostic, sometimes atheistic, and finally hit on a path to recognizing animism as my "religious" nature.

Some discussions I love and participate in, others I avoid like the plague (and over time my taste in these has changed--I've given up on theism/atheism discussions for the most part now, for example), and I enjoy playing with some others, such as @Revoltingest from time to time.

Nice thread.

My middle name and online name is Carlita. I'm a holistic dreamer. A cool pagan practitioner. A rockin' Buddhist. I am 34 and live out here in the suburbs about two hours from VA's beautiful mountain peaks. And an hour from our Metropolitan's congested D.C. environment (yes, nice comparison).

I am a lover of books and writing (can't you tell). I love to talk but that is kicked me in the back side these days. Nowadays, I think I'm going through a quarter-life crisis. Something.

Anyway, I think I came here two years ago. This would be the third year, 2015. What else? I read, rollar skate, don't worry, not at the same time.

Nowadays, I am spending time with the Gohonzon, polishing my spiritual life, and hanging out with like-minded friends.

Nam.

I would have never guessed you are 73. You are young at heart. :)

I've been a member here long enough for my big gold star (we used to have stars that denoted how long someone was a member, and the big golden star was 10 years). I was a few months out of high school when I joined, and now I'm a few months out of college. But had I realized I would be here this long, I would have taken notes and I would have had a very interesting (and at times heated and intense with people at each other's throats.) ethnography on forum life.
I'll be 29 in 10 days. I'm an avid reader, an artist, and I love being outdoors.
I also have Asperger's Syndrome (except it's all just autism now with the DSM-V), and how that awareness, understanding, and eventual diagnosis came about was I learned about it from a former member here, and the more she described it, the more I realized it described me, especially the thinking in pictures part (that was what really stood out to me). Which up to that point I thought everyone did that.
