A wounded animal is in the middle of the road. Do you hit and kill it or let it suffer?
Why not take to a vet?

Those 'kids' are in deep need of mental help... they are a risk to the rest of us in terms of future violence. Anyone who can so easily attack an animal in such a brutal way is only a step away from being able to commit violence against humans.

I agree. The lack of empathy or "awareness" that they were causing great pain and suffering to another creature to me means they are too ignorant to walk around free.

At 17 years old ..unless you have some sort of brain damage you have to know that setting a dog on fire is incredibly painful and inhumane. And to recieve some sort of pleasure or be "entertained " by that is deranged.

They need to be locked away..Not just for punishment ..The dog is dead now..She is resting in peace. They need to be locked away because anyone that could find an ounce of joy in such a brutal inhumane act is a threat to society. They found pleasure in what most would be revolted and deeply saddened by.

If you have reached 17 and you have to be "taught" not to set a dog on fire and enjoy it I have no sympathy for you.And you are a threat to me.I want you off the streets.

My husband got mad at me one time..It was pouring down rain and we were in traffic..The car ahead of us had apparently hit a cat.The cat didnt appear to be dead(to me)..it was "jerking" around.I told him to stop..he said we can just go around it Lana the cat is dead or dying..I said no what if it is alive..we cant just let the people behind us run over it..

He obliged..The cat was havign those last minute "jerks" in the back seat.

You should have seen his face the time he came home from work and there was a dead pigeon on our bed.He said "why is there a dead bird on our bed"..I said well I thought it might still be alive..He said no ..its dead Lana.

I just cant imagine dousing a dog ..down with gasoline and watching it burn.

If you're inclined to this kind of thing, next time I'd opt for a shoebox with some grass in the bottom rather than a bed. Dead or dying backyard animals will be just as comfortable as on your bed, and it's healthier for you.

YES I have saved birds in shoe boxes too.

I had "wet bird" that took his last breaths in a shoe box ..(he was s Dove that seemed to not be able to be dry when it was raining like the other birds)He just stood there .I ddint want my cats to get him.

Then I had the bird my cat got..that only was in shock..I put in a quiet place in a shoe box and she recovered and flew away ..

Then I had my 3 baby birds..that fell out of the nest in our roof..they had NO feathers..they were bawled..I kept them in a shoe box and proceeded to basically kill them tryiing to save them..

The other bird I wrapped in a Jurassic Park t-shirt And put it in the car and it was a dead bird..

Then I had the bird I clipped with my car and I put it in a box(a shoe box) and it recovered and flew away..

IOW..I ONLY put ONE DEAD bird on my BED....can you cut me some SLACK man?

It's a tough call, and I don't think you actually care anyway. Is keeping an animal from suffering torture? No. You already know my answer.

Maybe I'd take it to a vet.

Oh. So if I really wanted to understand about a dog's organs and could not afford a book and felt bad while I did so, I could kill the dog and disect it? It's all okay as long as you feel bad?

Well you had no problem with flowers and insects.. why not?

In fact, many people used to dissect dogs and cats for schools. You didn't know that though, huh?

And does that mean that a boquet of flowers is torture? My mom didn't need roses for mothers day. So I suppose I tortured those roses so that she could have them, because they had to slowly die since their roots were gone. I didn't even know I was torturing the flowers...

Well then I guess you've learned something if you actually care about it - but you're a nihlist, so I guess you don't care about anything. Fair enough, it's good to see someone live they way they preach.

No, it's just the way things go when you are condescending about your opinion. It's not that you disagreed with her. It's that you were talking down to her. It would be nice if you could read your writings objectively to see what I mean. I've learned that you can't, though.
I can and did, and I think what I said was spot on. I think she's sick for torturing creatures, and I think she should be ashamed of herself. That's how I feel about it.

mball said:
That's great. Then say it in a different way. Just say "I think you're being disrespectful to life". That would have been worlds better than what you said.
I get angry at double standards in people, and I get even angrier when they end up being disrespectful to life - it's a gut reaction to me.

mball said:
OK, so then you're saying you were wrong before and you've never swatted a mosquito or fly? I'm willing to bet you've killed an insect on more than one occasion even though it was only an inconvenience to you, not a threat.
No, I haven't. Obviously you know whereismynote much better than you know me. I couldn't kill anything unless it had done something to me first. And then, yes, I'd feel bad for it.

mball said:
I'm not arguing about what you feel. I'm arguing that regardless of what you feel, there is a huge difference between killing a bug and killing a dog. If you can't acknowledge that, then there's something wrong. You may feel that it's wrong to kill a fly, but it's still a much different act than killing a dog.
No.

I said that it's wrong to torture things - including bugs just for fun.
I said that it's wrong to torture any living thing just for fun.
Whereismynote... said that she enjoyed putting hot wax on creatures just for fun.

THAT is sick. And you may not think so, but then again, I think it's wrong that you DON'T think so - and that's just going to have to be the way things are on this one.

mball said:
Now, you're arguing against a strawman. Who here has said they'd do this now? I've heard several people say they did it as kids, including Hannah.
I'm not sure, but you sure seem to be defending them - these imaginary people. :areyoucra

WHOA!!

Buttons come on ..she was just a little kid.Kids do weird stuff like that sometimes its normal. We dont identify with bugs like we do mammals.

You are beign way to harsh on Hannah.

When we were little we use to smush up lightening bugs and get the "lilght" out of them and draw on our skin with it.We were afraid of snakes too and in Florida we poured tourpinetine down a snake hole and then stuck the hose in it to drown them out.

We didn't know any better. Its not like we are proud of that.We are not sick and mean people.Hannah lavishes love on her dog like he's her own flesh and blood child.I have raised and cared for and nurtured many animals and with much expense as an adult.

I think you need to cut some slack for some weird stuff people do as children.

Think what you want. I think that kind of thing is awful, even for a child. My Mom would never have let me do things like that to any living thing. She used to take the spiders outside on a newspaper if they were in the house. She taught me respect.

But I believe in personal responsibility, and hannah seemed to be bragging about her stint with abuse of small bugs. She has admitted that she doesn't even feel bad about it. So really you're defending someone who's perfectly fine with torturing things so long as it's not cute and cuddly. That's wrong to me.

Why wouldn't i care?

Its all well and good to preach about how killing things is wrong and how much you love all of God's creations and what not, but could you do it?

Happened to me about 4 weeks ago, and a few months ago (i posted a thread on here about it) and was pretty damn awful actually. Mainly rabbits around the area i work. If i took one to the vet they'd simply kill it. So what would you do? Let it sit there in the middle of the road writhing in agony or kill it, and stop the suffering. Sure you'd have it on your conscience, but at least you know you stopped it from suffering as much as possible.

Buttons..I take spiders out on a newspaper.Mostly I just leave them be even in my house.

Im not saying that its "right"..and it should be "encouraged" to kill a bug for not reason.I scolded my nephew recently he and his friends got a hold of a spider and put it in a jar and were it spraying with some sort of arosal spray.

I explained to him(them) that was cruel and they had no business doing that. Then I released the spider..I killed it(swiftly) because I coudl see it was not doing very well after its treament.

I told them they should be ashamed of themselves. But he is only 7.I certaintly did not tell him he was SICK.
