One member paid $ 10 for the dinner and got back $ 1. Which means that dinner costed $ 9 to each person.

The three initially gave 30 to pay for 25 in food.
They get 5 back.
They give 2 to the waiter as tip.
There is 3 left to divide among the three people.
Then you went back with adjusted numbers to say it cost each person 9 dollars, (when gave 10) which includes the tip from the above numbers, and then add the tip again for a second 2 and come up with a different number because the 9 includes the tip.
But everybody paid in 10 and got 1 back.

There is no missing money they each paid 9 dollars not 10. That equals 27 dollars - the 2 dollars given to the waiter equals 25 dollars exactly what the meal costs.

Two issues many people get lost in the story not understanding the facts.

The were incredibly cheap. They should of just left the 5 but then I'm an agnostic.
