Vietnam is a one party communist state my friend. Operating a mixed economic system, which is fully in line with socialist economic theory.

It is similar to China in that it is nominally communist but practically has a market economy with a lot of private enterprise. There's nothing communist about having many privately owned businesses, whether in a one-party state or otherwise.

Anyway, it was the atrocities committed by communist governments that was the issue right? What did Vietnam do apart from destroy the Khmer Rouge and stop the genocide of their own people in Cambodia...?

We could say that about an unfettered free market.
Do fans of socialism & communism ever use the
"unfettered" prefix before their favored systems?
I don't know of any current capitalist economy
that's unfettered or advocated to be so.
The word smells of straw.

Yes. Unfettered state ownership, would be problematic.
Neither do I, but people like Ayn Rand (RIP) advocate for such systems.
[nevermind]

I don't think communism is achievable except perhaps on an extremely small scale, like that of a tribe or group of tribes. It ignores human nature and the need for individual incentive, among other issues it has.
I think if we removed the human factor from economic decision making and planning. If resources were distributed by an agency that has no bias or preference or vested interest...

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
For whatever reasons the stories of people victimized by varied communist governments does not get much coverage, and thus we do not fully realize the horrors still being visited upon the people of China, Cuba & other nations.
Here are a few examples, told by those who personally knew what happened:

Authoritarianism is a frightening trend going on in the world.

I'm starting to think people want it thinking the government is the answer to their problems and are willing to give up their freedoms in exchange for safety and security.
