    .

It's said that hell was originally created as a place for Satan and his angels.

    Matthew 25:41
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

And from what a lot of Christians say, evidently Satan hasn't found his way there yet, as he's still leading us good humans astray.

    1 Corinthians 7:5
5 Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Fine, but then god decided to use hell as a final resting place for those of us who fail to toe his line.

    Mark 9:43
43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.

So what's the deal here? Was hell going to waste with no Satan to burn? Or does god simply get a kick out of making people suffer?

Just what is accomplished by putting people in hell?

    .

What purpose? To threaten those nasty peeps who dont believe.

Interesting snippet. The modern Christian vision of hell was inspired by Dante Alighieri and Hieronymus Bosch. Good to know it is seen as a comedy and art.

Comedy and art by some, but for a lot of others it looms as a very real possibility.

,it's like a reward for evil people for what they done , some scholars said it's eternal, some said temporary ,I am with side temporary

Since the Bible's hell is simply mankind temporary stone-cold grave for the sleeping dead, then biblical hell is just a reference to the sleeping place for the dead ( even the word cemetery means: sleeping place, Not torture place.)
The dead Jesus while in biblical hell (Acts of the Apostles 2:27) was unconscious in the grave while he was dead.
This is why Jesus taught sleep in death at John 11:11-14 in harmony with Psalms 115:17; Psalms 146:4; Isaiah 38:18

That ' everlasting fire ' of Matthew 25:41 I find is in connection to Revelation 21:8.
The definition of the ' lake of fire ' is found at Revelation 20:13-14.
There the lake of fire is defined as ' second death '
Sinner Satan ends up in ' second death ' Revelation 21:8.
Jesus destroys Satan as per Hebrews 2:14 B.
So, that lake ( second death ) is a term for: destruction.
Just as a fire destroys things and does Not keep burning forever.
This is why Psalms 92:7 says the wicked ( sinner Satan is wicked ) will be: destroyed forever.

KJV translated the word Gehenna into English as: hellfire.
Gehenna was just a garbage pit outside of Jerusalem where things were destroyed forever Not burning forever.
So, Gehenna is a fitting word for ' destruction ' and Not a word for burning forever.

That is a rather distorted view of justice. An infinite punishment for a finite crime is always immoral.

Yipes, I think it is about 'Christendom' ( so-called Christianity ) view about hell.
The Bible's view is: the dead know nothing according to Ecclesiastes 9:5.
    Know nothing but unconscious sleep.
That is why Jesus and the OT teach ' sleep in death ' - John 11:11-14; Psalms 115:17; Psalms 146:4; Isaiah 38:18.

Right, I find a distorted view of justice because in Scripture (genuine Christianity) there is No double jeopardy, No post-mortem penalty. Dead Adam simply returned to where he started from the dust of the ground - Genesis 3:19.

As Romans 6:23,7 says it is ' death ' that stamps the price tag of sin as Paid In Full. Not death plus anything else.
So, one's death totally-and-completely pays the asking price for one's sins.
Since we can Not resurrect oneself or another we need some who can resurrect us.
Jesus can and will - Revelation 1:18.

Rather, it is the modern 'Un-Christian' vision of hell......
Yes, false clergy have used fire as a scare tactic to try to control the flock of God.
That false teaching I find developed after the first century ended as per Acts of the Apostles 20:29-30.
First-century teaching is that biblical hell is just mankind temporary stone-cold grave for the sleeping dead.
This is why Jesus taught what was in harmony with the old Hebrew Scriptures.
The dead know nothing - Ecclesiastes 9:5
    Know nothing but sleep - John 11:11-14; Psalms 6:5; Psalms 13:3; Psalms 115:17; Psalms 146:4; Isaiah 38:18

Yeah, a lot has been "said".
For the life of me, I don't see where it says "Hell" @ Matthew 25:41... I read "everlasting fire", don't you?

However, that's the "fire" that Hell/Hades (and death) is thrown into, @ Revelation 20:13-14.

It's still a pov of apostate Christianity, i.e., Christendom.
Shoot, many of Christendom's leaders also say it's OK to kill each other during worldly conflicts, despite Jesus' commands! That stance alone should automatically bring their teachings under scrutiny, if not outright dismissal!!

Hell is a place at least for Satan and his angels.
    and could include others

Showing mercy is near the apex of God's glory so I would say your position is
a bit reductionistic. Jesus wept over some who rejected Him.

Good point, delivered w/ humor! (Or was that sarcasm? Still a good point.)

Just a question: since when is Fire supposed to hurt spirit creatures? Wasn't an angel sent to protect the 3 Hebrews from Nebuchadnezzar's fiery furnace? The fire didn't hurt the angel. In fact, the angel also protected them.

So, maybe the fire of Matthew 25 is symbolic?

Well, there are these that spell it out:

    Matthew 25:41 (voice)
At that He will turn to those on His left hand. King: Get away from Me, you despised people whom My Father has cursed. Claim your inheritance—the pits of flaming hell where the devil and his minions suffer.

    and
    Matthew 25:41 (msg)
“Then he will turn to the ‘goats,’ the ones on his left, and say, ‘Get out, worthless goats! You’re good for nothing but the
    fires of hell. . . .
But if the fire has no effect then why bother creating it?

The OP asks, "Just what is accomplished by putting people in hell?"

It is called divine justice. As humans, we cannot exact eternal justice upon our fellow man because we are mortal and temporary. The closest we can come is to exact justice upon someone till the end of their life such as 'life without parole'.

In the divine realm, God is now calling all people to take advantage of the opportunity provided to us through His Son's sacrifice, to change our spiritual state. Through this Spiritual cleansing we enter God's family. This was the original intent.
By refusing this invitation, we are saying to God that we prefer what the other party has to offer.

Since God rewards eternally, He also punishes eternally.

It might seem like a fear thing if one does not understand.
It is a metaphysical understanding....but so is moral good and moral evil.
Yes, moral 'good' reduced to it's lowest denominator is......God. The same with 'love'......is God.

If one cannot understand these 2 simple things, they will not be able to understand divine eternal reward and divine eternal justice.
