Some one please define what "poor" is?

Nanda

Polyanna
Not being able to afford basic necessities, like food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare.

I agree with Nanda, but (being a Canadian) I would take out "health care" and add "holidays and such" in its place, since that's what we Canucks do with the money you guys waste on health insurance.

A Canadian who couldn't afford a weekend of skiing in the Rockies at least once a year would be a very poor Canadian indeed.

Poor: Not having enough money to do anything you want. Which would mean that I'm not poor... even though I'm spending all of my grant and scholarship moneys to go to Toronto. :D

Poverty is having less money, possessions or happiness than the majority of other people in your society.

Me. I have $5 in my bank account, I'm working but not putting in enough hours (I'm not being scheduled enough, though I will be talking to my supervisor Monday) and I haven't gotten my paycheck yet (arg). I have bills that I need to pay, and they're all going to be over $5.

I agree with what most of the repliers said here. Poor is when you don't have much money to afford the things you need to live a decent, healthy life.

Friend Rev. Rick,

Some one please define what "poor" is?

Since you wanted someone to open the dictionary for you, here it is:

2. Lacking in a specified resource or quality: an area poor in timber and coal; a diet poor in calcium.
3. Not adequate in quality; inferior: a poor performance.
4.
a. Lacking in value; insufficient: poor wages.
b. Lacking in quantity: poor attendance.
5. Lacking fertility: poor soil.
6. Undernourished; lean.
7. Humble: a poor spirit.
8. Eliciting or deserving pity; pitiable: couldn't rescue the poor fellow.
n. (used with a pl. verb)
People with little or no wealth and possessions considered as a group:

If you are still not clear, look up the definationof rich and then imagine the other side of that pole and you would understand what the defination of *poor* is.

It can be mostly accurately answered through examples:

"This is a poor excuse for a thread."
"Why this thread was started is poorly understood."
"I feel sorry for any poor forum member who wanders into this thread."

Poverty is a state of mind.

Yes. I've experienced my mind stating "Wow, I hope I don't get rained on tonight," and "Hmm, I wonder if the food left in this Dumpster is still edible?" and "Wow, I stink. Wish the public showers were open today."
