Your question about "church/denomination" makes it appear that it's for Christians and not others including pagans, SPNR and other religions.

Thank you for your reply! But how can I fix this? I wrote so that Christians don't just write "Christians" but specify, for example, "Orthodox" or "Catholics".

Survey design and methodology is a whole field one can study - from the design of your survey it doesn't look like you're attempting to do a proper or professional research survey so I honestly wouldn't worry about it. But if you're interested for curiosity's sake, PEW does a lot of well-grounded research using proper methods and presents it in a way that is accessible to the general public.

Thanks for your comment and useful link! I really need to learn a lot more about survey methodology.

My grandfather, an uneducated but highly experienced and incredibly decent man, was a large influence on my life. I am not trying to belittle him, but please be aware this info came from conversations towards the end of his life.

He spoke of socialism, he was a lifelong supporter of the Labour Party. He described it and approved but stated that he could not see how it could work. He talked of Christianity, he described a Christian society and how wonderful it could be. These descriptions of two societies, were identical. His conclusions only varied according to which label they were tagged with. I believe that he was completely unaware of this.

This does raise many questions none the less about how we label matters and what motivates us. If you should think that this tiny survey brings you nearer to solving such issues I would love to hear from you.

Good luck in your quest.

The same general thing would apply to Muslims (Sunni/Shi'a), Judaism (Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionist etc), Hinduism and Buddhism.

Personally I would make it two questions. The first Religion (Christian, Buddhist, Pagan etc) The second question would be "Denomination or branch" which I think covers the subgroups for other religions.

Oh it makes sense, thanks!
