My mother, who passed away three years ago a few months beyond her 99th birthday, often told me how important being able to entertain oneself can be to one's happiness.

She was very kind to me. At birth, she not only gave me life, but something to laugh at. Me. Consequently, I have seldom gone wanting for self-entertainment.

Mom would have liked that joke. It's right in line with her sense of humor.

Mother's never really leave because they have a tendency to stick around in people's hearts for the rest of their lives.

Cheers to both of our mums!

I got a sweet mother too. She demands love but it's all too easy to love her. She always gives of herself!

Same as my mother. My mother passed away 2 years ago and was the primary influence on me.

My condolences. It strikes me that my mom, especially, would have enjoyed the joke in my OP. It's right in line with her sort of humor. She loved to laugh.

I had the most wonderful mother in the world. I had a terrific father too. I also have a wonderful sister, the world's best husband, and two amazing grown children. But of all of my loved ones, there is no one in the world I have ever loved as much as I love mother. She died at 96 years and 5 months. I will never stop missing her.

I've been told that if you can laugh at yourself as whole-heartedly as you laugh at the best sitcom, you are well on the path to wisdom.

Your mom and my grandmother who passed away a few years ago, would have been great friends.

I've had friends and family agree with my statement that if I marooned alone on a desert island, Tuesday night would still be open mic night.

A great deal of my sense of humor comes from my Grandmother. If you can imagine a 'country Betty White' then you would be looking at "Granny".

I had a lovely mother - too perfect perhaps - and of course she said I was her favourite (possibly saying the same to my two brothers also), but I think she actually meant it, given how close to her I was when much younger but the first to leave home (at 19) whilst also being the youngest.

My mom is still alive and kicking but as mother's seem to be, is the most wonderful woman in the world. She is the one person i gained my values from. Other than one little hiccough which was my doing anyway she has been there for me. Love you mom.

Hears to mothers everywhere and to fond memories.
