Masturbation proves many Christians don't believe what they profess

I don't necessarily care, just sharing the data. Seems to me if the data is correct, then it points out something rather interesting. When people profess their beliefs, I guess sometimes they are saying what they think they are supposed to say according to their religion, rather than what they really actually believe? I don't know.

This is the case with not only religion, but with atheists too. Just that an atheist may not care about God so he would not mind telling the whole world about his personal man to hand relationship, but he may have other things he doesnt talk about openly simply because he feels under observation. So when you speculate about what people dont talk about and talk about, many things could be speculated. This is a human nature. Also in research, many factors may come into play.

Talk about a click-bait style title! I heard this comment once (can't remember where) and thought it was really interesting. I'm speaking specifically to American Christian men & women. No offense to those with other religious beliefs, I just do not know if this will apply to other theology.

According to "the worlds largest masturbation survey" 92% of American men masturbate. 76% of American women do. That sounds pretty closed to correct based on my experience, though I'd question the honesty of the remaining 8% of men, since that is significantly more than the % of men who are born without hands.

Roughly 65% of American men claim to be Christian. This means 65% of American men who masturbate, are Christians. Of this group, most (I assume) would claim that their God (or Jesus) is with them all day long. He can and does literally watch what they do at all times. You obviously cannot hide from an all-knowing god. You see where this is going?

The 92% of males who masturbate, would never, under any circumstances masturbate directly in front of their actual father. Not unless they have some sort of twisted incestual sexual relationship. I suppose I could be wrong here. Maybe everyone else is masturbating in front of their parents, and I'm the only one who finds that thought repulsive.

So what is more likely; American Christian men do not really masturbate, or the claim that Christians make about honestly believing their God is watching us all at times is not only incorrect, but their actions indicate they don't actually believe it themselves?

They tell others not to do it, and pretend that they don't do it.

I saw a Baptist convention in Las Vegas. They got a free stripper show, and they were hooting and hollering so loudly that you could hear it across the casino.

Marriage vows seem strange in light of recent events "do you take this hand in holy matrimony" "speak now or forever hold your piece." They are getting married so they don't have to.

I'm really surprised how few people are following the point of the post. I could steal in front of my father. I could cheat on my partner and tell my dad about it. There are a lot of "wrong" things I could do in front of my own parents. The point of the OP has nothing to do with whether or not the act is right or wrong.

The question is, would you masturbate directly in front of your own parents? The answer, for all of us reasonable people is of course NO. However, some people believe whatever they do, they are doing it directly in front of Jesus. If they really believe it, then they also masturbate in front of Jesus. Which, I am objecting to not because its wrong, but because I don't understand how a human who is human enough to not masturbate directly in front of Mom and Dad, has no problem doing it in front of Jesus.
I wouldn't have a s*** in front of my parents. And that's not sinful in any religion.

Believing in principles (whether religious or otherwise) is separate from abiding by them... it's more like a constant struggle with many failures along the way... and this is the nature of the beast.

If believing was enough to live according to those principles, there would be no challenge...

Just because I fail everyday in many different ways to live up to my highest ideals doesn't invalidate the goodness or rightness of those ideals.

This is, consequently, the exact reason I caveated my reply (which I also deleted, by the way) with "IF you reply"

There is definitely something to be said for the heat in kitchens.
No lol I’m on my phone and need to take time to reply. I’ll reply later and appreciate you explaining the OP further.

Why do you care? Do you spend a lot of time thinking about men masturbating? Why single out Christians in such a crass way? A lot of Christians don't even view it as a sin.

God is within us and created us a s sexual beings. The sex drive in humans tricks us into becoming parents, to make something more than an animal of themselves.

I understand that Christians believe Jesus is with them at all times because I was a Christian for many years and that’s what I believed, along with everyone I knew. I do not know if people with other religious beliefs think their God is with them or “sees” what they do. It’s not hands off, just not sure the point makes sense if you do not think God can see what you do. I was trying to avoid the “well, as a ____, we don’t believe god can see us at all” type of response. I thought I briefly explained that in the OP.
This was the first survey found. The %’s aren’t that important to the point. Could be only 20%, rather than 90% and the question remains. We don’t even need a survey to make the point technically

the accuracy of the data is not the point.

This is the point. No one would do this act in front of a real parent, but many (whatever the % is) do it in front of their celestial father with no problem. Most think this has something to do with a sinful nature or something, but that can’t be it or they’d do it in front of their real parents just as easily as their god. Must be some other reason, like the invisibility of god perhaps? Perhaps they don’t really believe god can see what they are doing.
The entire notion sounds offbeat and slapstick to me.

I honestly think it is a very interesting point and very revealing about what must necessarily be going on inside the head of a person who answers that they believe that God sees/knows all, answer also that they wouldn't masturbate in front of God, yet still masturbate. As soon as you have all those 3 things in play, there are a few options that explain how they can be of this conflicting mindset - one of the most obvious is that they actually (perhaps subconsciously, perhaps secretly) don't believe that God is there, or that perhaps He doesn't actually care about what we're doing "down here." Either of those would fly in the face of common Christian scripture, however, and so cannot be admitted or accepted. Hence the reason the conflicting viewpoints and ideas must necessarily be employed. To effectively protect the belief-set that has been adopted, even though it is in conflict with the mind to the point that it simply can't be presented with consistency.

I have answered this through out thread, it's evil to be shameless towards God's sight but they don't disbelieve, they just take advantage of his niceness.

What do people probably when they masturbate these days? I bet the watch porn videos and fantasize this all leads astray from the path.

If a Muslim masturbates, they are required to cleanse themselves and repent.
I don't know about all of that. It would seem to me that masturbaton in the absence of marriage would be a good way to deter men or women from lusting after anything with two legs. And certainly in the event that a marriage doesn't fulfill sexual desire.

Sex drive is a natural biological trait of course. To make relieving or pleasuring one's own body a sin or something the devil is tempting one do in order to pull one away from Allah is really not an idea based on fact.

Do you have statistics for the rape or sexual assault rate by Muslims or other forbidding religions who see it as as sin vs. secular rape rates for a lack of a better phrase.?

I don't watch porn and have never had a desire to. I also have become asexual. However, that is only recently, and always indulged as a younger person. So that fear of becoming a porn addict is not always the case. After leaving religion I no longer felt guilty about a normal biological endeavor. But let's face it, ALL humans are going to participate so imo, it is archaic and may even create sexual deviants, cheaters, and other adults consumed by a lack of sexual relief through masturbaton if it is denied or made a sinful act.

Anyway, just my two cents. I've said enough on the topic. Thank you for explaining the Muslim view on masturbaton.

So... in other words... God is just being nice when He watches someone masturbate? Or do you mean that God would judge them harshly otherwise, but because no one else is around when they masturbate, He's "nice" enough to let it slide?

I feel it pertinent to mention (again!!!) - we're not talking about God's opinion of masturbation here. We're not talking about masturbation being a sin. It doesn't matter what God thinks of masturbation for this point/idea to be in play. If a person wouldn't want to masturbate in front of God, thinks God sees all, but yet masturbates anyway, then there is something going on there. God is supposedly watching, and so how can you masturbate if you don't think you could do it while He is watching?

If YOU (@Link) would masturbate in front of God or while you believed He was watching, then fine - this point ISN'T ABOUT YOU then. So go masturbate your heart out for God. I'm sure he'll be very "nice" throughout the experience.

Like I said, it's wrong and evil that we are shameless in sinning in God's vision, but it's not that most disbelieve when they sin. It's lack of proper etiquette with God and put's you on the verge of disbelief and if you don't eventually defeat your sins, you will eventually disbelieve.

I put prayers from Ahlulbayt (a) that teach how to address God if we were shameless in sinning in his vision (which is common), and those prayers are means to eventually leave that if they are done with the heart and connection to God and his chosen.

Your question comes down to what do people do evil deeds if they know God exists and is watching them. I answered that.

What I mean by nice is that God is forbearing and forgives and is easily pleased by those who turn back to him and repent.

The act of masturbation may seem harmless, but it's a statement that you don't have control, and it would lead to want more, and it's natural to want more of an experience and be intimate instead of just with yourself and imagination or a video or pictures. It's better just to avoid all sex if you can't have sex in an honorable way, I believe masturbation will eventually lead to impatience and make you sin.

You're STILL talking about "sin" when I told you (and others) multiple times that it doesn't matter what God thinks about masturbation for this concept. It just doesn't.

Your reply is just crap, and I have a super simple thought exercise which PROVES unequivocally that these people we are talking about (those that masturbate, would not do so in front of God, and yet believe that God "sees all") are in direct conflict with themselves and their beliefs in some way. You ready? Please read carefully... there is already so little I believe that you understand based on your replies thus far, I, personally, would prefer you not destroy what little hope I have left. Here goes (in red below):

These same people would simply NOT masturbate were there any actual, physical person that they felt uncomfortable doing so in front of in the room with them. They wouldn't do it. They could only muster the "courage" to do so if they felt confident that this person could not see them.

See how easy that is? Do you understand why that is entirely pertinent to the discussion? If you do not... then shame on you. Use your brain.
