As I was driving down the freeway to work, I happened to notice a HVAC company’s van. The company name on the van was “72 Degrees.” I glanced down at my climate control in my car, which was set at 72 degrees. “Clever name,” I thought. There must be some sort of axiom that 72F is the ideal temperature. I suppose it is for me (except when I’m naked, I like it a few degrees warmer, which is why my computer room is set at 76).

Is 72F your ideal temperature? If not, what is yours?

*Please post your ideal temperature in Fahrenheit, because I’m too lazy to convert, and we’re not savages here.

Having helped both parents through old age, I'd say that ideal temperature increases, where the ideal temperature at 90 years old, is about 85 degrees. Whereas others melt like wax, they perked right up. :)

Call me weird but I like it cold, once it hits 70 I get very cranky very fast. My ideal is closer to the 55-60 range. I've been known to keep the AC on all day in summer and open windows in winter. Unfortunately the coldest temperature setting on most cooling systems is 64 though.

    Yes.

If you have the contact details for the company you mentioned, post them here and I will suggest they correct their name from 72 to 70 degrees as reflects the scientific facts.

Probably some kind of fundies or something to get the science that wrong.

No, i want to use degrees c but i will do you the honour of translating it to your language.

Funnily enough the ideal temperature on this side of other Atlantic puddle is 22c (71.6f) close enough. But it's to hot for me. Although outside i cope with a wide range of temperatures i begin getting uncomfortable over 38c (100f) and begin to melt at 44c (about 111/112f) inside i prefer a room at between 18 and 20c (64.5 and 68f), the heat pump is set to 19c (66f). It seems the rest of the family agrees with me, never had any complaints anyway.

Depends what I'm doing. If I'm active, then 18C (65F) indoors is fine. If I'm sitting still, reading, then 20C (68F). 72F, i.e. 22C seems a bit warm to me, though it would be comfortable.

    I prefer 60-65.

Though we recently got an air conditioner that has a "energy efficient" setting that cools the room it is in 10 degrees lower than the outside temperature.
Meaning that if it is 100 outside, the air conditioner only drops the temp in the room it is in to 90.
at first I thought that that would not be any good.
But the more we have used it, the more I like it.
I have noticed that the 10 degree difference really does make a huge difference.
Especially when going in and out of the room to the outside and back into the room numerous times a day.

Inside here we set it at 22, but outside for walking, gardening, etc. I like it about 17. 25 is too hot for me ... depends what you're used to.

Tell me what the humidity is and the wind chill first. Also include how much exercise I'm getting.

Then you'll find that the ideal temperature is whatever my wife wants at the moment.

I walked to the grocery store at about 8:00 AM. It felt perfectly warm to me as long as I was walking. Half way there the Sun went behind a cloud and it was suddenly cold. About 50 out at that time. We need to add amount of sunshine into the equation as well.

And another complicating factor. What has the weather been like leading up to the current temperatures? I remember many years ago ( when we had to walk uphill for miles both going to school and then walking home afterwards) that after our annual cold period when it would get down to -20 with a windchill factor that was often -50 we would get a midwinter thaw. For a week or so it would be sunny and as warm as 40. That was short sleeve shirt weather at that time. Then we would go.back to a couple of months of regular 20 degree winter after that. The change to spring was a bit more gradual and short sleeves would not appear until it hit 60.

Outdoors, a little cooler at 70 (21.1 Celsius)

We drove around with a woman in her 70s all day yesterday; she likes things problematically warm. We were all hot, and she sat in her sweater and coat....

I like things warmer than most. 72 is acceptable, but 82 is comfortable(provided the humidity is not ridiculous).

When I had the Covid I must have had a high fever as well. Cranked the indoor temperature to 75 and was wearing my winter coat inside. I was still cold.

    Bahahahaha!

Depends entirely on what I'm doing, but I like it a little warmer than this when outside. Call it 74 or so.
Having said that, I cope with cold pretty well. I didn't have too many issues with a Swedish winter (at least in terms of the cold...the wet and dark were more problematic).

My wife would be more like 80. I swear when we work out where to retire to, it'll be the end of the relationship...lol
