Gun Control: Does Owning Guns make some people feel Special?

Yep, same here. Add another liberal to the list.
And another one. I'm liberal as well.

Yosef: Should hunting be outlawed? And if so, what do we do in order to maintain an ecological balance? You seem to have ignored the hunting position quite a bit, so maybe it would be worth answering now.

Hunting only leads to more hunting. In aus we killed all the Kangaroos predators because they were dangerous and now we're stuck with kangaroos destroying our agricultural land in some places. Hunting only leads to more hunting.

We don't need to kill kangaroos or their predators, but we kill for sport because we're pathetic.

I am not sure about the hunting part. To be honest. Because I myself don't believe in killing living things for sport, but can I really take that away from somebody who enjoys it? I don't know what to say about hunting. Maybe they could allow hunting with heavy regulations.

That's not all Yosef has ignored:

So your argument is really "we should trust the government with safety, our lives, but we shouldn't trust them to make the right decisions"!!?

And this seems logical to you?

This wouldn't even be an issue in other countries.

Right. Like Switzerland...an assault rifle in every home.

Gun politics in Switzerland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If they had no guns, the whole mess in New Orleans with forming mobs using guns would never have happened.

L.A. riots, anyone?

The truth is there is at least one country in Europe with low crime and lots, and lots, of guns. Assualt rifles no less.

You admit the government often can't be trusted to make the right decisions, but we should somehow trust them with our lives and safety 100% of the time.

Not all hunters are sport hunters. Many hunt for food.

Also, while I wouldn't call it "hunting," many farmers need guns. Where I'm from, mountin lions preying on livestock aren't so much a problem, but there are rattlesnakes that could well kill the farmer.

I may as well stop posting, because I know the majority of America is gun happy,

I gave you an example of a country even more "gun happy." Check out their crime rates.

I don't doubt you will stop posting. But I think it is because you found less allies even among those politically akin to you, and arguments you weren't prepared to deal with:

1) The riots in Katrina were bad becaue of private ownership
Answer: The riots were helped by private security, armed to the teeth, and other riots (L.A.) were incredibly destructive without lots of guns

2) Trust the government for your lives and safety. But don't trust them to make the right decision.

Answer:

3) Only America has this problem
Answer: Switzerland has assault rifles in just about every home. And low crime raters.

4) Guns cause more crime
Answer: Then why is it areas like britain have higher rates of violent crime?

The government can protect your rights, that's what cops are for

This was already answered before you asked, but I'll answer it again. Actually I'll counter with a few questions of my own: who is going to protect your rights from the government? And if you're going to rely on cops for protection, are you expecting to have a police escort 24/7? Guess what? The police aren't telepathic physics who can travel instantaneously through space and time. Be realistic, son. Why should my rights, freedom and safety be sacrificed to just to humor your paranoia, hysteria, and insecurity?

And you wonder why liberals don't think citizens need guns?

I am a liberal who supports gun rights. I'm all about rights, freedom and equality, see? It's something I'm very passionate about. And anyone who would try and take that away from other people isn't fit to lick my boots.

Nope, not really, LOL. I may as well stop posting, because I know the majority of America is gun happy, and that's because our society teaches us to be.

Or maybe they understand the value of having rights and freedom? It's sad that some take it for granted. Also, people have presented solid, rational arguments supporting gun rights, and the those opposing gun rights have offered nothing more than straw men, appeals to emotion and a myriad of other fallacies.

I'm thinking the same thing. I'm sure if a pit bull was chewing someones kids arms off and would not let go, they might be glad I came along instead of waiting those very long minutes for the police to arrive. Just saying. :help:

I agree with you for a point. In North Dakota, if hunting was stopped, the deer population would be come overwhelming. Even now, they pose problems to farmers by eating crops, by eating feed for cattle, as well eating seeds that were going to be planted. Simply we do not have enough predators here. Part of this was simply because we developed land and forced some of the predators out, and we did hunt them years ago. Now though, we have a problem that must be kept in check.

The same problem is growing with the turkey population. And this problem is now extending to the city. If we stop hunting here, the overall population of deer, turkeys, etc will end up dying out from starvation. It will also effect much more than just those populations though. They will also gravely hurt the cattle industry here, as well as the farming industry. Hunting has become a necessity here.

Personally though, I hunt mainly because I enjoy deer meat.

If guns were banned, we'd just go back to stabbing eachother. People that want to kill eachother won't let something like no guns get in the way of that... I actually believe the complete opposite. We should give guns to everyone, this way people will think twice before they pull theirs out.
