I'm all for relief but... really?
    • Directing $350 billion to bailout states like New York, California and Illinois at the expense of states that are open like Florida,
    • Providing another $127 billion for schools with no requirements for schools to actually reopen (According to the CBO only $6 billion of this will be spent in 2021).
    • Spending taxpayer funding for abortions and abortion providers,
    • Earmarking $112 million for an underground subway for Big Tech’s employees, in Silicon Valley,
    • Spending nearly a billion in foreign aid, and
    • Providing hundreds of millions for endowments for the arts and humanities.
    • $480 million for Native American language preservation and maintenance
    • $50 million in environmental justice grants.
    I enjoy the statement at

Fact check: Breaking down spending in the COVID-19 relief bill

More than 99% of the American Rescue Plan is going to Americans, though some of that falls in the category of political “pork.” An analysis by a nonpartisan group found about 85% of the bill is related to the pandemic.

    Let me break this down"

99% is going to Americans (doesn't matter that "pork" is in it- we will just close our eyes on that)
Another group 85% says related to pandemic - translated - the above 99% is a white-wash and its OK to have 15% pork

Couldn't they just make "Covid relief bill" a Covid relief bill?

It's why I think earmarks and riders should be banned from all bills.

If not, then put toys back into cereal boxes. It's for the children.

Political haggling and extortion. Some congress people and senators have their pet project that would never receive enough votes to go through. But if they can bundle it in with a bigger bill, they agree to vote for that (and threaten to not vote if their pet project doesn't get included).
Btw.: giving money to schools is for them not to open. You want people physically distant. The money is for means to provide online courses.

You really don't understand how Senate reconciliation work, do you? Or a democracy works in practice with a parliament/congress?

If you understand the actual process, then that is how it works regardless of what party is in control.

We live in Kali Yuga ... full of greedy people. So, be sure that with this big money flow, a large percentage will flow into the pockets of those in charge

Just a good business plan. I could have figured this out myself. But I don't want to collect such a karma
Make people scared like "Hell" with a new virus, and when too scared, they won't be able to scrutinize/check what is done, all in name of the cure.

    Interesting about the schools...

I don't quite understand that. If you have less electric, maintenance, food, supplies going out because they are not in school, shouldn't there already be enough money for them to stay at home? Teachers teaching from their home still receive their paycheck. What is the "extra" cost for teaching at home?

And I think that is what is fueling an antigovernment status quo of today!

For a (public) school, money is not equal to money. I suspect that in the US it is not quite as bad as here in Germany but there are multiple budgets and you can't simply shift money from one pool to the next.
Again, I don't know if it's the same for the US but here the states manage (and finance, at least mostly) the schools. There is one exception that was recently created and that is IT. So with federal Covid relief money laptops, cameras etc, can be paid and lent to teachers and students.

Okay, and how do you propose to do it differently? I am serious. Besides complaining, what is your solution?

Oh noesss!! I thought that everyone was interested only in the best interests of everyone, not in minor matters such as getting reelected or paying back supporters so that they continue to support you. You have caused me to lose all faith in politics:(

Well, that is how it is.
All politicians as themselves look out for themselves and those who have elected them. That is how representative democracy works.

If you don't have enough votes to pass a Covid relief bill, but you really want the Covid relief bill badly enough, you will agree to pork. Otherwise, there is no Covid relief bill.

In other words, they cannot just make a Covid relief bill a Covid relief bill, because some people will not vote for a Covid relief bill.

So the question is: if a majority of people wouldn't vote for a Covid relief bill without pork, then why can't they just not pass a Covid relief bill?

My proposal is the have it subject contingent. Bill 1 - ff it is Covid relief... if MUST be directly Covid related (or if it is infrasture - just infrastructure or if it is welfare it should be just welfare). Bill 2 - Pork personal desire bill. This can have a line-item veto so the President can stop any one of them.
