19 year old assaults 81 year old for Wearing MAGA Hat

Or maybe it's because the hat is practically a hate symbol?
Of course not, it's the snowflake liberals.

yes. It's the 'snowflake liberals.' That 'make America Great Again" is a political campaign slogan, and the only people who see it as a 'hate symbol' are idiots and political opponents.

Please remember that until the Democrats hijacked the whole thing, it was REPUBLICANS who were the movers and shakers behind ending slavery, segregation and getting equal rights for minorities. Lincoln and MLKjr were both Republicans...and the KKK, the governors of the states which actively and violently opposed integration were Democrats (The KKK was the Democrat 'army,' actually) and the Jim Crow laws were all proposed and passed by...guess who...Democrats.

Now, however, the Democrats have somehow convinced their base that the Republicans are racist and hate mongers and they are, and have always been, intentionally and racially pure as the driven snow. THEY have decided that MAGA is a 'hate symbol,' but I have news for you. A symbol means what the user says it means. That's why the swastika, which for millenia was a symbol of peace and prosperity, is now one of the most recognized hate symbols there is...because the Nazis co-opted it and changed its meaning. It may never get its original meaning back.

NOW the Dems are trying to pull what they did with the fight for racial equality, and frankly? You all should be ashamed of yourselves. "Make America Great Again" is NOT a hate symbol any more than my Dad's WWII hat, letting everyone know that he is a member of the 'Greatest Generation,' is a hate symbol.

....and remember that 'driven snow,' however 'pure' it may claim to be, is still made up of a bunch of flakes driven by bluster and unable to control their own positions.

So did America only somehow convince Americans that we're Americans and not British since America was at one time a British colony?

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
No, but it is provocative and it only takes one hothead.

In the UK there are some big football (aka soccer) rivalries, if I walk into some pubs in Manchester, that I know are City supporting, wearing a United scarf, t-shirt or whatever. I don't expect to be assaulted BUT if I was assaulted no one would be surprised. And many would call me stupid for inflaming the situation.

Is your argument is that it is partially the fault of the hat wearer that was assaulted because someone else couldn't control themselves? If this is the case, are women that are wearing certain clothing partially responsible for their rape?

It's completely amazing what you notice when pieces of the puzzle start getting put together and a picture forms.

I wouldn't attack any old man minding their own business even if they were wearing a Nazi Uniform and holding an ISIS flag in one hand and a statue of Stalin in the other.
Now that's a sight I'd like to see.

This Donald Trump Rally Looks Like A Scene From Nazi Germany | HuffPost
That is quite a spin where he is clearly joking and having a little fun if you watch the entire clip.

Beto O'Rourke: Trump's rhetoric 'is something that we might have expected to hear in Nazi Germany' - CNNPolitics

Nicolas Maduro says Trump sounds like a Nazi

So who is making it a hate symbol/Nazis?

Real Nazis:
Nazi Propaganda (1933-1945)
excellent resource for Nazi and East German propaganda

Imagine making vapid Nazi analogies to score cheap political points. That's pretty pathetic...

Seeing as you haven't done that for at least 6 hours though, it's definitely not hypocritical to try and take the moral high ground on this issue.

It Aint Necessarily So

I've been in hospital recently, there was a religious box to complete, I happily put NONE

That would be riskier in the United States, especially in a hospital. In America, atheists are considered by many Christians to be immoral enemies of all that is decent. Here's an expanded treatment of that.

Consider these excerpts from the Christian Bible:

[1] "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good" - Psalm 14:1

[2] "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, and all and the enemy of a good god." - Revelation 21:8

[3]"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?"- 2 *Corinthians 6:14

[4] "Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ." - 1 John 2:22

[5] "Whoever is not with me is against me" - Luke 11:23

[6] "They are puzzled that you do not continue running with them in the same decadent course of debauchery, so they speak abusively of you" – 1 Peter 4:4

Altogether, those scriptures depict unbelievers as lying, corrupt, vile, decadent, debauched, abominable, wicked, godless vessels in the service of darkness and evil, not one of which does any good, and fit to be burned alive forever as the moral equivalent of murderers and whoremongers, and the declared enemy of a good god.

And what are the consequences of that teaching? At one time, unbelievers could be legally tortured or killed. Until recently, they were defined as too immoral to be allowed to adopt, teach, coach, or serve on juries. Even now, it is very difficult for an atheist to be elected to a public office.

Here's a bit more of that atheophobic message

[6] Wartime poster: "Godless atheists threaten Christian America" http://0.tqn.com/d/atheism/1/7/U/2/3/The-Atheist-e.jpg

[7] Billboard: "Attention lunatic atheists and their lawyers. Anti-God is anti-American. Anti-American is treason. Traitors lead to civil war" https://blueollie.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/christian-billboard-one.jpg

[8] "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God."- American President George H. W. Bush

[9] "Settle it therefore in your minds, as a maxim never to be effaced or forgotten, that atheism is an inhuman, bloody, ferocious system, equally hostile to every useful restraint and to every virtuous affection; that, leaving nothing above us to excite awe, nor round us to awaken tenderness, it wages war with heaven and with earth: its first object is to dethrone God, its next to destroy man." - Rev. Robert Hall

[10] Message board poster: "[Atheists] constantly think of death and killing, the death and killing of Christians and Christianity, the death and killing of innocent babies who never harmed them or anyone else, the death and killing of any taboos that interfere with morality thriving. In their world it is "anything goes" if you feel like it do it. In fact, their creed is almost exactly that of the Church of Satan's. Gee, how coincidental is THAT?"

And the cumulative consequence of all of this bigotry and hate speech? :

NEW REPORT CASTS ATHEISTS AS "OTHERS" BEYOND MORALITY AND COMMUNITY IN AMERICA freethoughtassociation.org -&nbspThis website is for sale! -&nbspcenter for inquiry michigan freethought atheists atheism freethinkers humanism humanists agnosticism Resources and Information.

"Atheists have become the ultimate scapegoats in our culture... but the news isn't all bad! A new study by the University of Minnesota Department of Sociology has found that Americans perceive Atheists as the group least likely to embrace common values and a shared vision of society. Worse yet, Atheists are identified as the cohort other Americans do not want to see their offspring marrying!

[snip]

"Researchers concluded: "Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians and other minority groups in 'sharing their vision of American society.' Atheists are also the minority group most Americans are least willing to allow their children to marry." Disturbingly, Atheists are "seen as a threat to the American way of life by a large portion of the American public," despite being only 3% of the U.S. population according to Dr. Edgell, associate sociology professor and the lead researcher in the project."

Do you really want to tell a hospital full of people raised to think like that that you are an atheist when you are such an easy target of people who see you as the enemy?

I think for Atheists the idea of a God does not, cannot, coexist with the analytical mind.

This atheist does not say that gods don't exist, just that he has no reason to believe otherwise, and that since there either are no gods, or if gods exist, they cannot or do not manifest to us, it is best to treat them as nonexistent and live accordingly.

Theism describes an involved God. Specifically.

Apparently not to most of reading here your words and commenting on them. Admittedly,a deist has a lot in common with an atheists, and little in common with a typical Abrahamic theist, but if the word is used to distinguish those who believe that a god exists or existed, and those who don't, I'm grouping the person who believes in the noninterventionalist god among those with a god belief and calling them both theist for answering "yes" to the question of whether he believes in a god or gods.

It isn't necessary that we all use language the same way in order to communicate effectively as long as we are clear that others know to what we refer when using the word, and we are more interested in understanding what one another has to say than in what words they use to say it.

Ridiculous and disgusting [the violent event in the OP].

But totally predictable and expected. Expect even more as time passes. And more school shootings. And more white supremacist rallies. That's the inevitable result of Trump winding up his base.

What does it mean?

MAGA is an acronym for Make America Great Again, which is largely understood to mean make America white again. It is as provocative as a swastika to those who see Trump and his followers as enemies of America.

That 'make America Great Again" is a political campaign slogan, and the only people who see it as a 'hate symbol' are idiots and political opponents.

Either an idiot or a political opponent of Trump? That's pretty funny.

Now, however, the Democrats have somehow convinced their base that the Republicans are racist and hate mongers

The Republicans did that by being racist and hate mongers. Trump's base cant get enough of his racism, hatred, and agitating people to anger.

I have news for you. A symbol means what the user says it means

Not to the person looking at it. When you wear a MAGA hat, I see something that I don't feel like spelling out here.

Either an idiot or a political opponent of Trump? That's pretty funny.

Either way, only idiots and political opponents believe that MAGA is 'as provocative' as a swastika. ...and I do note the Godwin's Law thing. Man, that happened fast....

They are assigning meaning to the symbol that the folks using it don't intend. Did you actually read my post regarding WHO the racists were in the days when 'America was great?" Hint...it wasn't the Republicans. THEY are not the racists now, either. It is those who use propaganda to convince their base that the conservative right MUST BE racist because 'they ain't us, and WE are on the side of the minorities and downtrodden' that are doing this. As for MAGA being 'largely understood to mean make America white again,' THAT is as big an asininity promulgated by the left as the one about Bush being responsible for the bombing on 9/11.

It is only understood that it means 'make America white again' by the folks who want to ignore conservative history and who want to win elections for themselves. Nobody with any sense, or actual knowledge of history, believes that.

The Republicans did that by being racist and hate mongers.

Except...er...it was the Democrats who, historically, were the racists and hate mongers, as they are now.

Trump's base cant get enough of his racism, hatred, and agitating people to anger.

Not to the person looking at it. When you wear a MAGA hat, I see something that I don't feel like spelling out here.

You are seeing your own hallucination. Remember; symbols mean what the people who use them think they mean, and those who wear those hats do NOT think they mean 'Make America White Again."

THEY think the phrase means 'make America prosperous and free again." Because we sure weren't under Democratic administrations. Have you had an honest look at the recent unemployment stats, etc.?

Especially for minorities and women?
