What do atheists have to say about incidents like these?

You know of documents that prove the earth is flat? That’s amazing.

But I was referring to police, hospital, and child service records.
How do hospital documents attest to the child walking up a wall? Who wrote the documents? Were they there as well as being hospital workers?

Please show us these documents.

Especially considering the fact that most cases like these usually have multiple credible eyewitnesses.

Children possessed by 200 demons 'levitated' and walked backwards over walls in front of hospital staff | Daily Mail Online

A nine-year-old boy walked backwards up a wall and ceiling as startled medical staff looked on after his mother claimed he and his two siblings had been possessed by demons, according to official reports.

The unlikely-sounding event was detailed in official documents after a child services case worker and a nurse both said they saw the boy 'glide' backwards on the floor, wall and ceiling.

Both were shocked to see the boy apparently float after their mother had been subject to months of scepticism when she claimed her home in Gary, Indiana, was haunted and all three of her children were possessed by demons. Listen to exclusive audio of the demon here

Latoya Ammons said her 12-year-old daughter also levitated in the home, and all three of her children showed signs of being possessed including 'evil' smiles and unnaturally deep voices, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Miss Ammons' home was officially exorcised by a catholic priest who said the ceremonies were officially authorized by the Diocese of Gary.

Police also observed strange goings on at the house and a captain of the city's force has said he 'is a true believer' that the house is haunted.

After a string of apparent paranormal events at the house hardened police officers - including the local captain - even declared themselves too frightened to stay there after nightfall and numerous city officials refused to go to the property.

Mother-of-three Ms Ammons, 32, said she was only rid of the spirits that haunted her family's home in Gary after she moved away and underwent multiple exorcisms and police dug under the house to check for graves.

The Indianapolis Star obtained hundreds of pages of official documents and carried out more than a dozen interviews with police, the Department of Child Services, psychologists, relatives and a priest to uncover the bizarre details - which seem like something straight out of a horror movie...

I looked at the other articles on that news site...it seems to me it is one of those news outlets that is only interested in the sensational...every article claims some extraordinary fact.

I would trace out the sources if any in that article and see what more balanced news sources might claim.

This site could be like the National Enquirer.

I, for one, would say that it is sad that people in this day and age still believe in demons.

Being that Gary, Indiana is the earthly portal to hell, I guess I can't say I'm surprised.

Oh yeah, I remember. All TV stations started showing this as breaking news. All other programs interrupted in order to report live from that hospital an extraordinary event that shows evidence of demonic possessions.

No. Actually no. Never heard of it. And I guess nobody else heard of it.

But why not, in your opinion?

I can only imagine the editor of a big newspaper reading “evidence of kid who walks backward and up walls” and thinking “nah, we should not write this, it is not interesting”. Lol

Ciao

P.S. Was that a psychiatric hospital?

Even if there is a such thing as the paranormal, a story rife with cheap and cheesy Hollywood cliches can be tossed out the window.
I have to believe there are skeptics that will have a reason to toss every story that strongly suggests the paranormal.

To me, it is the cumulative weight of a thousand and one stories I have experienced or heard of in my lifetime that has me convinced the paranormal does happen.

And never the twain shall meet.

We have to seriously credit all the sightings of
mermaids. then?

One can take the "cumulative weight" of all the
claims of paranormal, but, have you considered
that it might point to something other than what
you want?

How about if it tells us about the human psyche,
rather than about something "out there"?

From a research pov, there is nothing at all to go
on, as for there being "real" psychic / supernatural,
whether you choose to accewpt that fact, or not.

There is, though a great deal of research, as well as
a vast trove, a great cumulative weight of anecdotal
accounts of how readily people are deceived, how
poorly they observe, and how predisposed to see
what they want to or believe they will see.

I hope the loopy side will eventually come around and
meet the sensible side. The door is always open,
come around any time!

You do understand that, with:
  1. the apparently ridiculously low frequency of occurrence of such events
  2. the impossibility (at least so far) in anyone "recreating" such events
  3. the fact that for the vast majority of everyone on Earth, such events will come down to hearsay
  4. the fact that the evidence is usually of a low caliber - written testimony/reports, witness accounts - usually no forensic evidence of any kind, nor usually any video or audio (also usually low caliber considering the abilities for video/audio editing that exist today)
that with those facets always surrounding these occurrences, most of us are simply bound to be skeptical. As in, we have to be. That you are not is not at all a mark in your favor.

To me, it is the cumulative weight of a thousand and one stories I have experienced or heard of in my lifetime that has me convinced the paranormal doesn't happen.

And never the twain shall meet.

And never the twain shall meet as long as children are indoctrinated to believe the supernatural.

ETA: I don't know of any atheists who believe in paranormal BS.

Here you are trying to say (with the mermaid example) that one has to believe everything or nothing they hear. I would say an intelligent person considers everything involved and forms judgments on likeliness. That to me is the only way good human reasoning can work. Believing everything or nothing sounds wrong to me.

I know people can be deceived sometimes but they can also be dead right sometimes too.

I use my noodle I believe.

NO, I am not "trying to say" that. If you used your
needle you would know I am not saying something
so stupid as that.

Most unknowns involve a lot of possibilities, often
beyond what we ever think of. That is kind of a thing
about unknowns.

It appears to me, though, that you are not
considering even two possibilities, but,
instead, only one, that the "cumulative weight"
dd up to only your conclusion.

Notice the q. you avoided, in favour of
making up something rather ridiculous about me.

Here is is again-

Have you considered that it might point to
something other than what you want?

I absolutely consider everything including the above.

And it is not the 'what I want' that's important with me, but rather what is 'most reasonable to conclude'.
