Is reality brutely indifferent to life? Or

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
Does reality accomodate life very nicely? Like a squishy glove. All the nice fruits, and veggies to eat, and all those other life forms to eat for protein. Is life provisional? Is it tailor made for human beings?

Perhaps in this technologically wonderous age we take for granted all the amazing things we have and fail to realize, that without the brilliant work of human beings, none of this would be, and reality itself would be brutely hard, and demandingly dangerous.

Now they even talk about someday, a jobless economy ruled by machine learning. I wont hold my breath on that one.

Why do you separate what happens in life from reality? What, exactly, is your definition of "reality."

Reality is that which you can not change or be wished away. It is everything that exists whether it is known or unknown.

Life is your livelihood, and how well you fare in surviving and thriving under the conditions reality imposes.

I really like your definitions.

Reality is indifferent but life is constant change. It is life's ability to rapidly change that allows us to survive. Reality is indifferent not tailor made. Life creates its own accommodations.

Plants run roots through the ground in search of water and minerals, they grow a stalk to use the energy from the sun, they create a flower to attract pollinators, they go to seed for the next generation. They will bend if the sun is blocked, they will hibernate if it gets to cold, the flower will close at night to protect the seed or pollen. Rain, Drought, Snow, Temperature ranges, High winds the plants will survive and reality will give a good dose of each.

Overall life has favored human life, or we could not exist. I am not saying its a cake walk.

I would say it's the other way around. Life is brutally indifferent to reality.

Life is the only thing in reality capable of brutality or indifference. Depending on what counts as life, of course.

Reality sure seems to "favor" life in the sense that it, being by nature a selective process that maintains itself, is likely to develop and to remain for a while when the proper circunstances arise.

It does not look like there is any significant tendency for natural environments to be sustainable indefinitely, though. Certainly not for human-like life. We have a remarkable tendency to fantasize rather unlikely scenarios that would make our existence long-lasting.

I'd liken reality to an artist canvas that hasn't been touched. The epitome of neutrality by which a picture is yet to be painted.

Life has evolved itself to fit nicely with reality. The laws of physics themselves are indifferent to life, but life has found ways to manage it through evolution.

And to expand it further life specialized itself to live in specific areas on the planet. Humans bare and naked without tools would die pretty damn quick. Since they abandoned nature quite some time ago and began altering it to suit their own needs. Which led to their rapid propagation across the planet. Yet there are still places that exist where some organisms thrive and humans could not hope to survive there.
