Poland Stops Providing Ukraine with New Weapons, More Calls in Some EU States to Stop Backing Ukraine

China's claim to Taiwan is even less valid
than Putin's to Ukraine. The Taiwan government
is the original one that Mao failed to overthrow
in his revolution. If anything, Taiwan is the
entitled rule of all of China.
But entitlement is irrelevant. Desire & the
power to effect goals are what count.
I don't mean taiwan

Seems like good news to me, but heck, what do I know.
Very bad news for the élites overseas.
That money will not be spent on weaponry, or warfare.
It will be spent on the reconstruction and on welfare for the Ukrainian civilians.
Under the supervision of the European Commission.

It appears that much of it is more long-term aid over the course of several years, which Ukraine will most definitely need in the aftermath - if this thing ever ends.

Meanwhile...

Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has told Volodymyr Zelensky never to “insult Poles again” after the Ukrainian president suggested his neighbor was putting on a show over their disputes on grain exports.

The Polish leader fired back at Zelensky after the Ukrainian leader offered a veiled criticism of Poland at the United Nations’ general assembly this week, saying the dispute was “political theater” and that “some of our friends in Europe” have “made a thriller from the grain.”

On Friday, at a rally in Swidnik, Poland, Morawiecki hit back.

“I want to tell President Zelensky never to insult Poles again, as he did recently during his speech at the UN,” he said.

“The Polish people will never allow this to happen, and defending the good name of Poland is not only my duty and honor, but also the most important task of the Polish government,” the Polish prime minister added.

Zelenskyy is not the right president for when Ukraine joins the EU.
Ukraine hasn't joined in the EU yet...and he disses a EU Prime Minister, already.

He has an attitude that many dislike. As if he were entitled. As if he had been invested with something very important.

And I guess I know who invested him with the task of continuing the war, no matter what happens. For ever and ever and ever.

In Europe nobody invested him with anything. So...

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Amid a row over grain shipments, Poland has said it will stop delivering new weapons to Ukraine:

Support from Estonia and Slovakia is also at risk of considerably waning, although many EU states are still backing Ukraine as much as they have done since the start of the war:

Unfortunately, it seems that leaders in a few EU states may be prioritizing political convenience and votes above helping Ukraine fend off the Russian invasion, which I find sad but not surprising given the interest-driven nature of international politics. Hopefully this won't end up having a significant impact on Ukraine's efforts to defend its territory.

What are your thoughts on these developments? Do you think they will have a moderate-to-major impact or only turn out to be relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things?
Poland has a right to prioritize its own interests over others.

They did their honorable part.

His current job is to expel the invaders.
Maybe he'll return to comedy when
Putin's tail is betwixt his legs, eh.

In six months there are the presidential elections in Ukraine.
The EU will ask them to vote for a president who wants a ceasefire, so Ukraine can think of rebuilding the economy, housing...with EU money...
The US will probably ask them to vote for a warlike president who uses Ukrainian soldiers as cannon fodder to defeat Russians.
Who do you think Ukrainians will vote for?

Why do you think Europeans are more and more against the prosecution of this war and the funding of weapons (as in the OP article)?

Because they do know that having a warlike approach makes you lose the elections.
So...spending European money on such a barbaric thing is something the EU is avoiding.

The longer this goes on, the more people will grow weary of it.

Even in the U.S., the cracks are starting to show: Paul will hold up any spending stopgap that includes Ukraine funding

Rand is an isolationist, always has been. And Josh "runs for his life" Hawley will say anything to get media attention.
It appears that the initial fearmongering about Russia's supposed plans to conquer Europe and dominate the world is starting to wane. They can't even conquer Ukraine, so the early fears that they would attack Poland or the Baltics don't seem like they'll ever come to fruition. So, the original reasons for sending aid to Ukraine don't really seem to apply anymore. Russia has reached the end of the line, and they can't go any further.
I think the danger is still there. I could see a Korean war scenario happen where as soon as it looks like the north is beat, China gets involved. Keeping pressure on putin will keep China minding their own business.
Americans will tend to expect American politicians to care about America. "What about our nation?" is a question we'll see more and more of, if this continues.
Many of these isolationist voices have a poor vision of how connected the world economy is. Imagine if China gets involved and we cut off trade with China. That would be a disaster for the US economy.
This could also have an effect on next year's elections. The Democrats in 2024 could end up like the Democrats in 1968, when the party faced disarray and dissension, all over a war that was 10,000 miles away.
I don't see this, Democrats are pretty solid on support for Ukraine. It's the republians who have a split in support with the Freedom Caucus wanting to cut support. McCarthy is caught in the middle, which was his miscalculation from the start.

You fail to mention putin in any of this. He was the one who invaded, he's the one who will stop it. putin is likely hoping to maintain a stalemate hoping that somehow Trump can get re-elected. The election is 13 months away, and another two before being sworn in. So that is a long time for Russia to hold on against the majority of the world against him.
Why do you think Europeans are more and more against the prosecution of this war and the funding of weapons (as in the OP article)?
Because it is putin not admitting he lost and it's a waste of money that this one idiot won't face reality. His reputation is ruined, and there is no getting it back.
Because they do know that having a warlike approach makes you lose the elections.
It is defense against an aggressor. It is a wsate of money that is all on putin. Let's hope that Russia will have to pay these nations back in the form of gas and money. Too bad for Russia.
So...spending European money on such a barbaric thing is something the EU is avoiding.
Because most of Europe learned how war is a waste of money TWICE in the 20th century. Only putin is too stupid to realize it is something no one values and wants. The faster putin is defeated the better. Then NATO can vote for Ukraine to join, and putin will have caused the one thing he was trying to prevent.

Because some Europeans favor Putin expanding
Russia into the old Soviet stomping grounds.
Putin espouses old school Christian values of
vengeance, oppression, & persecuting gays.
