Men and Abortion

Financial help without loop holes would reduce welfare. Too many men jump from job to job, so they can't be tracked down for child support. It's disgusting.

That's what my bio Dad did.

Never paid more then a few hundred in child support. Spent most of his time running/avoiding

Should men who have casual sex and father a child be required, made law, to financially and physically raise their unwanted and or unplanned babies? forced to coparent?
Should men who want to have children but their partners choose abortion get free counseling for the guilt they have to endure?

I don't believe anybody should be forced into parenthood, nor should somebody be forced into financial responsibility for an unwanted child.

A woman should have the right to abortion and the decision of whether or not to abort has to be hers alone. As a man has no choice in whether or not a woman has an abortion, he should at least have the right to bear no responsibility for the child.

At the same, you have to provide enough protections so that a man couldn't simply walk out on a child after it's born or change his mind shortly before its birth. This is where things can get messy.

The best solution I can come up with would be some form of contractual arrangement made during pregnancy. A man could waive his rights and responsibilities towards the child or he could commit to providing for the child once it's born. This way, neither person is forced into supporting a child they didn't want and the father couldn't back out of his responsibilities if he agreed to help with the child. Nor could a man who waived his responsibilities demand to spend time with the child if the mother didn't want him to.

There would still be plenty of issue to work out with that system though: What do you do about couples who share a household? How far into a pregnancy can the father wait before he has to make a decision on the contract? What do you do in situations wherein the father was unaware of the pregnancy?

These are issues that don't have easy answers in my opinion, so any form of legislation would have to be thought through very carefully.

On a slight tangent, both men and women should also have the right to sterilisation as soon as they're old enough to legally have sex. This is something that often gets overlooked in discussions about reproductive rights in my opinion.

That's news to me... "Most men don't want to be father...."

Poll: Most men aspire to be dads

"More than 8 in 10 men said they wanted to be fathers or would like to be one someday.

Three-quarters of dads said they were married when their first child was born.

Men were more likely than women to say they'd like to become fathers to carry on traditions."

I am really sorry that happened to you. Supposedly 75% of dads don't even see their kids only one year after divorce. Of course, I don't know if some of these are because the moms won't let them or if they are all dads who willingly don't see them.

In a 50/50 joint act the father helped create the child. The father should therefore shoulder responsibility and maintain the child until it is old enough of earn its own living. In this.
I 100% agree with you. But anti-life people need to be consistent and give the father the same rights as the mother to end responsibility for the child.

If anti choice people were consistent they should also compensate for the harm they have done on forcing an unwanted child on to the world
No, the mother and father are responsible for created the child. They are primarily responsible for taking care of it. Now, I am for helping people that cannot financially take care of the child to get to a point where they can.

When the father carries the child and gives birth then you have a point.

The Christian right took away the ownership of the womans womb but are unwilling to pay for that theft. Yup sounds very christian right to me

How about they be the ones forced to raise these children, no exception? No more "dine and dash", you caused it, you own it. And if the baby is the result of incense/rape, compensation is due to the woman who was violated and forced to endure the trauma of an unwanted pregnancy.

The sad part is the children caught in the middle. They should have not been conceived much less brought into the world and will face hardships at best and abuse at worse. But this is what the "pro-life" party wants. Life in the womb is precious, once you exit you're on your own.

Yeah that's why they are the ones running crisis pregnancy centers that help women before and after birth...

Any woman in the US can still get an abortion today. SCOTUS did not make it illegal.

SCOTUS overturned Roe, indicating that they do not recognize abortion as a right. And several states have abortion bans that have gone into effect immediately due to the SCOTUS decision or will go into effect shortly.

We are. However, since the government has decided to control women’s bodies and all of their actions for an 18 year period after having sex, then the men should have the same loss of control to the government’s whims. Fair is fair.
Exactly

And American justice imposing only on the mother shows that they went back to Middle Ages scenario...men controlling women their bodies
