IMO:
That was not a bad thing, but needed. In Holland we were too tolerant regarding Muslim culture (and in Scandinavia too); when Belgium threw out a Muslim hate preacher, converting young Muslims into extremists, Holland allowed him to preach in The Haque. So it was needed that we in Europe made a clear point towards Islam. That has nothing to do with "Islamophobic", that is pure "common sense".
Americans are better fighting for themselves; they have even guns, we are not allowed, that tells enough. Just use common sense. 1 culture can only handle so much of a totally different culture, especially when an exclusive Religion is involved. Because being a democracy when it becomes 50% we get Sharia, which I definitely don't want to have. USA has far less muslims (USA 1%, Holland 5%), so they don't have this issue yet.
Since Charlie Hebdo and afterwards Pakistan Muslims threatening to Nuke Holland over a Muhammad drawing contest of which thousands of Muslims were even proud, we have good proof, that it is indeed wise to have very clear restrictions and rules to preserve our beautiful culture. Many Muslims belittle our Freedom, because Koran does not agree. Very well, that is their right, but I love our Freedom, so I am glad we have a Geert Wilders how clearly draws the line now. He is not perfect, but again needed to balance things out and thereby protect our culture.
I belief Islam is a great Religion (My Master was a Muslim, and I adore my Master), but I see quite a few big issues also, that needs to be dealt with, before they can integrate in the West. And integration, at least in Holland, is still a problem. And to me it's obviously that part of this is the Religion. When a Religion has verses of exclusiveness and superiority there can never be peace. Of course the majority are great people, that will never cause trouble. But when there are 2000 million Muslims, and 0.1% are fanatical extremists then that is 1 million. And that is a big army, especially when working as terrorist, believing to get 77 virgins when blowing themselves up.
When I see the security in USA on terrorism, then here in Holland it's paradise for them compared to the USA. So, it's needed that we also get our things in order, before it is too late. Small country gets easily messed up. USA is 20 times bigger, so it could (but would not) allow some flexibility on terrorism. Once it's there, it's hard to go back.
