Man sent to prison in Kansas for inability to pay medical bills.

I fully expect Donald Trump to step in and fix this mess...Just kidding, we all know that won't happen.
No, because any humane solutions get demonized and denounced as "socialism." The free market has clearly failed utterly and irreparably at "managing" health care. It's not good for patients, it's not good for clinicians, it is good for absolutely no one other than those who profit off the illnesses and woes of others. In other words, those who are the sickest among us are showered with blessings and wealth from Mammon for being cruel and wicked to those in need.
Really, it almost makes me wish there is a Hell just so I can join in on the battle royale free for all over the right and privilege to be the first to take the first crack at the to initiate their eternal torture. And then enjoy their torment regardless who starts it (but totally get off it's me that gets to break that skin first (although I'd start by breaking their knee)).

I'd include those who refuse to have any part of fixing the system and instead are actively trying to make it worse (trump party members in congress).
They are included in the ashes of the scorched earth (many Dems to, for not be willing to put forth anything more than a band aid solution like the ACA).

Our medical system is a joke. A deadly life-destroying joke that is on us, the American public of which a large part has been conned into thinking health care for all is somehow a bad idea.

Godless Socialism !

The people who can’t afford it, don’t deserve it !

Mulch them, and make a one mark profit per corpse !

What is the point of being rich and superior if worthless wasters get free medical ?

Apparently Jesus healed the sick.
His devoted followers would prefer they went to hell.
Isn’t that weird ?

I would have thought free health care was the sine qua non of a Christian attitude.

How do people maintain such stunning levels of hypocrisy ?

Alcohol ?

You didn't read the article did you? He didn't show up for court that would evaluate if he had to pay that debt or was within poverty criteria. He was put in jail due to failure to appear not debt. You fell for click-bait and didn't read the contents.
And you fell for the design of a system to enrich a lawyer

This is absolutely outrageous. Everyone involved in this, from the doctors to the bill collectors to the bankers to the lawyers and the judges, should all be locked up for the rest of their lives. Force is the only language people like that understand. There's no other way to solve this problem.
When force is the only way, and reason cannot do the job, then we are in serious trouble.

Wow! I'm not sure that you, or anyone else, knows just what you've said here. Your lack of Churchillian (or perhaps Obama-like) oratory may dilute your point -- but it is a very, very good point.

Doctors and other clinicians would have to be a case-by-case basis. It's not unusual for them to commit insurance fraud so a patient can get the treatment they need. And bill collectors, I imagine many, if not most, of those, such as those making the calls, are just doing a job.
But lawyers, lobbyists, insurance executives, policy makers (legal and insurance), they are a problem. Insurance as it is, is a major problem that has firmly wedged itself between patient and doctor. It needs to all be destroyed as a system and institute and rebuild from the ground up, modeled on something that has actually been demonstrated to work, rather than a failed attempt by what one state already tried.

I've considered it. I still might after I have my master's degree. My only real problem with Canada is the only region I'd want to go to is that tiny bit in the SouthWest near Seattle, because everywhere else has too much winter for me.
And, to be perfectly honest, too much winter for the rest of us. But it is what it is, and the cost is not too high to enjoy the benefits.

It's just too hard on my body anymore with various ailments, and not too mention the tremendous relief of never having to worry about walking on ice again after I moved to a warm part of California where it hasn't snowed in 20 years.

I think it's when they resort to these kinds of cutthroat tactics to collect a bill that a strong message has to be sent.

And there's more...

Some didn't even know they had a warrant out for their arrest. One had debts they didn't know about... from some party that charge her for evicting her, so it's not just medical bills that can lead to this.

Assertion and deflection. I never commented on the system as in favour of or against. I just pointed out the title of OP is misleading and the reason why. Lack of reading the contents of the article. Try again. Maybe try reading next time

What's frustrating with medical bills is that you have a procedure or an appointment and the bill is sent to insurance, but insurance rarely pay the whole thing and you get a bill at a later date for the difference, and sometimes they double bill, it gets a bit hairy to keep track on what you've paid and what not. I have a son who is paraplegic and there's constantly bills coming in. Luckily, nowadays, most of the companies have online pay systems which really helps.
