Turkey Invades Syria

Ouroboros

Not a big surprise. :/

No thoughts here anymore. I don't know what anyone should do or could do. Hopefully, it's not a start to something much larger.

Donald Trump, with divine wisdom, composes a tweet for Turkeyland

1 day ago The genesis of Donald Trump's recent tweet, as revealed by a leading White House whistleblower. Donald Trump, with divine wisdom, composes a tweet for Turkeyland .

Excerpt:

Don: “Exactly. I have divine wisdom.”

Mel: “That might be the teensiest bit lavish, dear. The snake handlers and the tongue talkers might feel you're getting above yourself. What is it your message to the world?”

Don: “I wanna say that the Turks can do whatever they want, but I need to give the impression that if they embarrass me by doing what we know they'll do, they’re toast.”

Mel: “But isn’t that almost the same thing? The Kurds were our friends only 10 minutes ago and now they’re going to be put to the sword. That could be a little bit embarrassing.”

A disaster for pretty much everyone, except _perhaps_ Erdogan's short term ambitions.

Neither Syria nor the Kurds will see reason to trust anything coming from the USA (or at least Trump) again.

Nor will many sensible people in positions of knowledge about the situation, including much of the military High Command and Congress, mind you.

Both Erdogan and ISIS will feel emboldened, and the morale of US military and of foreign allies will be put under serious risk - all the more so because it was so crapicious and unnecessary a risk.

Soon enough you Americans will realize that Trump has just sustained his pride and vanity with a blood price that can easily cost thousands of lives, including American soldiers. Without as much as a weak excuse, to boot. It is no coincidence that even Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell are finally feeling the need to criticize him.

Please let's agree it's time to let the well-armed and highly trained Kurdish Syrians fight their own battles without the risk of American soldiers getting killed in the cross-fire. We should wish these souls the best of luck and Godspeed.

I was not supporter of Trump. Now I am because this:
Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
The United States has spent EIGHT TRILLION DOLLARS fighting and policing in the Middle East. Thousands of our Great Soldiers have died or been badly wounded. Millions of people have died on the other side. GOING INTO THE MIDDLE EAST IS THE WORST DECISION EVER MADE.....

That is a decent enough goal.

But dropping the Turkish military into the Kurds that put their safety on the line on your behalf to fight ISIS without as much as a token effort at establishing a timeline is, to put it mildly, a stupid way of attempting to attain it.

That is no way of treating people who drew and lost blood in the fights that so many Americans deem both too necessary not to be fought and too risky to involve your own military. Which isn't the most honorable of stances to begin with...

It was mostly special forces who were playing back up not actual ground forces

There is a Trump interview with Howard Stern where Trump is for the invasion of Iraq.

Back then, Trump as well as most anybody else was fed bogus information by the U.S. Intelligence community claiming Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Trump now realizes America can't afford to always be the world's international policeman.
