Why is male facial hair so widespread these days?

Are guys too lazy to shave these days? Does the ungodly high prices of razor blades have anything to do with it? Is it a form of rebellion?

Up until about the mid-90's, beards were quite rare especially on younger men. Mustaches were fairly common all through the 20th century but clean-shaven men were widespread in America and in Britain.

Nowadays, clean-shaven is the exception and not the rule.

Because Islam. A basic form of pandering, whether conscious or subconscious, IDK.

Could be because:

  • Kids are no longer allowed to pray in school,
  • Bearded men never learned the pledge of allegiance,
  • Bearded men never learned all the words to "the national anthem", or
  • All of the above.

Or just since men have beards or something.

Actually, we've had Jews in America for a long time. We've also had the 1960's.

...What we've never had is mainstream popularity of beards, at least not since the advent of the disposable razor in 1901, and the invention of electric hair clipper in the 1920's (both American inventions BTW).

Is it just a coincidence that beards have become socially acceptable all of a sudden just as mass Muslim immigration into the West is occuring?

Don't get me wrong, me and my friends have had long hair and beards for a long time. But now that it's become a trend, I shaved mine off.

It's more likely only a fashion trend and that beards need no shaving, which can hurt, cause cuts and ingrown hairs, and can be a hassle when needing to be done daily.

I am less a slave to popular fashion.

I've had a beard since the 70s.
I like it and it's not going away.

In my circles it's none of those. We've each grown a beard for different reasons. It's just who we are as men. Not that being clean-shaven makes you any less of a man, despite the memes that say "If you can't change a tire, shave" and "I have a beard because I'm neither a woman nor a child". They cause quite a bit of consternation and quite the **** storms in a few of the Facebook beard groups I belong to. Some guys look for excuses to get butt-hurt (maybe they should shave :D).

Incidentally, I've gotten to know some pretty awesome guys, "bearded brothers" as we call each other, from these groups. Guys have driven hundreds of miles and spent hours on the phone talking a brother out of eating his gun or doing something else as monumentally tragic.

I grew mine out over 4 years ago (I had a goatee on and off for years) for some pretty dumb reasons: I wanted to rock a bad-*** Viking beard, having discovered I most likely have Norman ancestry. Hey, as good a reason as any.

Doesn't bother me to put myself out there. Ain't no one or nothing that can do me any more harm than I already got. ;)

It's a bit longer and fuller now...

And I'm not ordinarily that mean-looking, I do smile. ;)

I like the look either way. You don't really have a face that can break a phone screen, and it disappoints me whenever I don't have to get out my insurance policy on my phone for a broken screen, but that's a discussion for another time.

That's actually great for you, that you can do it. I wish I could have one too, but unfortunately my hatred for Islam is stronger than my love of beards... So I can't force myself to do it.

Respectfully, this is simply petty. Men have worn beards in every single culture since before Islam, thousands of years before. Islam hardly has a monopoly on beards.
