Still. The Dude abides.
They took one look and decided to come back when we've grown up some more.
I'm saying, who gives a damn? you are a soldier aren't you?Just asking: Do you not think aliens exsist because they havn't made it to earth yet?
Like on Earth maybe :sarcasticYes life may exist in the universe.
Thank you for that observation lunakilo.Like on Earth maybe :sarcastic
I don't think we will ever see Aliens on earth. Perhaps some day in the very distant future out in space some where we may meet some but I don't think they will beam down and see us because they cant get here and the fact that the odds of finding our rock out of the uncountable trillions is mathematical not rational.

Don't they beat guys who talk about this crap upside their head in your army?
Aliens are a recreational hobby. if people want to read about the possibilities of intelligence life out there, by all means. as long as they don't produce revisionistic historical and archaeological accounts, or revisionistic accounts of the modern political world and technology, in which case the academics wouldn't be bothered that much I suppose.
but once our 'science' channels have become polluted with this human drama which is 100% unscientific and mocks the work of hard working scientists, this is a holy war as far as I am concerned. scientists around the world alienate those people who try to twist scientific information because of wishful thinking and unprofessionalism.
if people are interested in the night sky. take a telescope, go camping, take a basic star map and educate yourself over the basics, pick up a book about Mars, because it is the next big thing.
the only aliens I've seen lately are in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. therefore its more constructive to deal with good business opportunities when it comes to astronomy, or just hard basic information, the kind that is without emotional baggage inspired by holywood films and caucasian vintage Sci Fi writers.
Now Spielberg, understanding the business opportunity from the gullibility of people, and the wishful thinking that motivates them, has done very well for himself. that's actually a productive way to deal with the alien drama.
Yes life may exist in the universe. in most cases, they would not be intelligent life. yes intelligent life may exist in the universe, somewhere.. out there. and when I say out there, think space. space is ridiculously huge, mind boggling huge.
let me focus on taking the time to know the wife better, before I shake the hand of a green man and start negotiating with him business.

With the vast number of different religions, there would be a vastly different array of reactions. How do you think religions (and I'm not just talking about Judaism, Islam and Christianity, but also Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Neopaganism among others) will fare if aliens landed on earth tomorrow?
Do you think they will see the aliens as angels or devils? Or people who need converting? Will it damage some, or all religions?
How do you think they would fare if the aliens were incredibly religious beings, with their own religious scriptures and prayers and so on, as opposed to incredibly scientific and hateful of religion?

Pretty much everyone would be amazed, even people who think it's likely that intelligent life exists somewhere out there, because it would just be so new.
The secular response would be varied as well. Decisions would have to be made concerning the intent of the aliens, like are they a threat? Is this like the movie Independence Day, and do we need to pull out the nukes and pretend we have a chance?
In religious terms, it would probably be like Sagan's Contact. Some people who adhere strongly to a particular organized exclusive religion might feel threatened by it and talk about devils or whatever. I assume others, like Tenzin Gyatso, would probably just think it's neat. New Agers might have all sorts of mystical theories and such. It would be varied.
who knows allot of imagination at this point, maybe theres law's regarding contact and a civilization has to be advanced enough to even be contacted. [more imagination on my part ]
See post #40.Star trek first contact rule?

Perhaps there are but as I have said in previous posts I doubt our species will ever encounter another sentient species.IF big "if" they wanted to make contact and could communicate with us.
I think they would set the tone right off the bat, we would have little choice in the matter.

It would likely depend on what sort of aliens they are. To contact us they would have to be technologically advanced, but they may or may not have an amount of wisdom to match their technology.IF big "if" they wanted to make contact and could communicate with us.

I have heard that we are broadcasting a signal (normal radio waves but crackpots see it as an invite) inviting aliens to an all you can eat human buffet but I doubt the signals, any radio signals, have been received, again due to the vastness of space. I just think that sentient life is a very rare thing in this universe. Sure when you look at the vastness of things billions could be considered rare and the distances would make that rarity seem an impossibility. For all intents and purposes people we are alone.
On the other hand, if the aliens were a bit more chill about it, they might approach earth like a professional wildlife photographer approaches wildlife: observe for the sake of knowledge and understanding, but be essentially invisible and don't disturb anything.

remember, we still are very primitive
What if we are not? Sure we have all of these theories that wow and amaze us but just, for the sake of argument, assume that there is absolutely no way to move safely through space any faster than 1/4 the speed of light. Also assume that all of the tech now being worked on gets finished and we find that the wall of physics prevents any further advancement. So let us say we are 150 years from maximum advancement.
In 150 years do you think we will be much better than we are without the discovery of some new boundaries in physics?
Do you think religion will just fall apart?
Anyway, really, if(when) we find alien life
so its nigh impossible to predict what an equivalent form of religion would be
