Hirsi Ali interview-"everyone is afraid to criticize Islam"

SPIEGEL Interview with Ayaan Hirsi Ali: 'Everyone Is Afraid to Criticize Islam' - International - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News

In the interview she postulates Islam stifles freedom of speech in regards to its religion

Her final quote from the article is this:

"Hirsi Ali: The doctrine stating that the faith is inalterable because the Koran was dictated by God must be replaced. Muslims must realize that it was human beings who wrote the holy scriptures. After all, most Christians don't believe in hell, in the angels or in the earth having been created in six days. They now see these things as symbolic stories, but they still remain true to their faith"

Should she be permitted to voice such an opinion about the Koran and how do you feel about her take on Islam in general?

footnote : her blog:
Ayaan Hirsi Ali en de strijd tegen de radicale islam: English

I think she should be allowed to say that..And as far as Im concerned she made a lot of sense in that interview..

People should not have to fear of losing their life for stating an opinion and especially if they are revealing "truths" that others would want covered up.

Oh and P.S ..around here even the Bible and Jesus sometimes get unmercifully made fun of by some...It makes me feel sad..but I certainly dont think they should die..I mean I don't become enraged and feel homicidal over it..It seems there is a double standard or some "special" rights expected by some Muslims...Where they feel "entitled" to be protected or sheltered from anyone who does not agree with their beliefs or how they live..

It is an important comparison to note. I am sure you have seen cartoons of Jesus you found irritated with as have other Christians but by contrast the followers of your faith don't assissinate the cartoonists, issues death threads or blow themselves up in buildings in retaliation. An interesting question is why one religion has a large percentage of its population that sees violence as a reasonable reaction and the other large religion by comparison does not.

Yes here in fact..Some of Jesus dragging a shot gun on his back instead of a cross..and sitting with a small child apparently teaching the child how to load bullets in a revolver..it hurt my feelings..but I'll even admit it looked quite commical to see Jesus portrayed that way..in an absurd sort of way...

Anyway reacting with violence over words or pictures is completely disproportionate. If its slander prove it in a civil action..I think the religious folk tried and failed to do exactly that to the founder of penthouse magazine.I believe it went all the way to the U.S Supreme Court..But in fact the founder was under threat of death..Im sure you know he was shot and paralyzed..His attorney was shot as well....But I think the man that did that was acting alone..In other words I dotn think it was the Christian "consensus" that he should die in order to get him to shut up.

Also you talked about "love conquers all" in another thread..I believe that this is an example of absense of love destroying needlessly.

I believe humility is a bi-product of love..And if you have love of people and peace is your goal then their reaction if you ask me should be humility..There is something profound about a simple...."that hurts when you say that"..As opposed to "I'll kill you if you keep saying that".

Maybe many times it is the inverse of what you said. Love drives people to kill or injure pretty regularly. This weekend at bars all over the USA uninhibited guys injured or were injured by other guys fighting over someone looking or flirting with their girlfriend. This year alone thousands of gf' and wifes will be killed by men who love them. Love can be a strong motivator or injure or kill.

But I dont believe thats love..Thats jeolousy and feelings of possesing another. In fact I would go as far as to call it hatred..

Having said that ...I do beleive that if someone hurts the person you love..That pain can drive you to get revenge. There was a story of a man who's daughter was raped and killed..The "defendent" it appeared was going to get off on a technicality..He gunned him down right at the court house..Every one cried for mercy on him..including me..I didnt want him to have to go to prison for that..

I think she should most certainly be allowed to voice her opinions on Islam, although depending on where she lives it might not be the wisest thing to do.

It amuses me how muslims come to predominantly Christian countries and set up schools and mosques, yet over there we cant even say and do what we want. It doesn't seem fair to me, their god is no holier than any other.
That lady a while back who told her student to call his teddy Muhhamed and muslims caled for her execution, ***, its a name. Should people here in Australia call for the execution of people who go against Christainity? I think not, thats rediculous, so why can muslims do it?

Well, If you were a good or real Christians you would behave the same as us muslims
because it is mentioned in th bible Leviticus 24:16.

And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.

Plus our islamic teachings tell us if you have proof then you can, but if you have no proof you can put false allegations against anything this does not only applies to the Quran.

Plus How many times have you heard that we made films to make fun of Christians or the Bible and Jesus. You have too much freedom thats why Christians turned away to be satanists.

Thats a scary post. No person deserves to die for such a thing, that is rediculous. If i said your prophet was a joke for whatever reason would you say i should die?

Also, aren't there Islamic tribes who believe in the Shaitan (devil), so its not just Christians.
Also satanists turn away from god for reasons you just proved with your post, i cant see any reason to be associated to such violence. You're saying as good christian would kill those who speak against the lord, i find it quite disturbing there mate.

Look i told you that it is mentioned in your own scripture anyone who blasphemes shall certainly be put to death . You take oath on the bible then you ought to live by it if not you are not a christian.

Plus there is no Islamic tribe who beleive in the Devil as God, we beleieve in the Devil as the Accursed Devil, understand that mate.

Yes they Ought to kill those who blasphemies but as i have said previously alot of Christians they dont even know the whole bible they just know John 3:16. and they only focus on John 3:16. There have been people killed for heresy, socery, blasphmey, by the church. but its only the Christians today are not really Christians. They are only beleivers of Christ but not the followers of Christ.

Yeah, and thank god for bad Christians. We need as many bad Christians and bad Muslims as we can. If your holy text sanctions killing unbelievers, then it has no place in the modern world.

Im not a Christian, if anything im anti-christian. I don't believe in scripture and for good reason.
Maybe you need to stop taking scripture so literally, look what it's doing to you. If you believe someone should be put to death over a meaningless sentence in a book you should take a long hard look at yourself.
Such values and ideals have no place in the modern world.

I beleive in the Law of God almighty not humanly laws made by humans just to compromise everything. at the end everything just becomes worthless by these humanly laws, If a Christian does not beleive in the whole bible then he should not be called a Christian. Dont worry about more people in America has murderd then people in Islamic countries, they are taking thier own scriptures literally
