The name is Kyle and I am a pagan. I don't have much tolerance for Christians, as sad as that may be to hear, because I have not met a single one who ever had any tolerance for me. In the end, the Christian way always seems to be focused on the "me" rather than the "everyone".

Still, maybe Christians here are different? It's worth a shot to find out, right?

Other than my religious affiliation, I am a single father of two kids. I work too much for their benefit, but what parent wouldn't?

    Welcome Kyle.
Just so we have some context, could you tell us what you mean by pagan? I find the dictionary not too much help: "a person holding religious beliefs other than those of the main world religions." Pretty broad brush there. I find myself covered by that definition, but it doesn't say much about me.

@TheKyle : the rules here are designed to promote polite discussion across religious lines. Tolerance is both directions is encouraged and intolerance in either direction is not tolerated.

The community here ranges from Christians to Moslems to Hindus to Bahai to Atheists to Pagans (and I'm sure I left out quite a few).

Welcome and join in the fun!

    Greetings!
You'll find some tolerant Christians here. I regularly
mock their religion, taunt them, & even tie their shoelaces
together when they're not looking. Yet they're civil &
friendly to me. (But don't pour pickle juice into their
hot chocolate.) My fellow atheists are trouble though.

Now, join us for Sunday morning brunch (for free) &
philosophical chat in the staff cafeteria...

You're one of the better ones...quite domesticated.

    Edit....
Those feral atheists though...always tipping over RF's
trash cans to search for goodies.

    Hi, and Welcome.
Thanks for the candid introduction. :)
Sounds like you agree with the motto - Do onto others what they do to you. ;)
I'd like to meet the Christians you met, since I don't know any Christian who doesn't tolerate a man who really tries to care for his children.
Hope you find something different here. :)

Beware of defining others by that disdain. There are billions of Christians in the world, most of whom you would never knew were Christians because they consider their faith their own business. And so keep it to themselves. Most Christians are NOT evangelical. They are not worried about your soul, or your fate after death. They are quietly concerned with trying to be a better person, themselves, and they find that challenge, enough.

But a fair percentage aren't, and a fair percentage of several billion is still a lot.

And i would think that to be a better person you at least try to stamp out injustice and intolerance in your own ranks... bur hey, thats just me thinking that because thats whst I'd do

I look back at ancient paganism through to modern religion, and I see a lot of the same attitudes, questions and problems that are in Christianity. Then as now politics often decides what we are permitted to believe. I guess I can't really say that as I'm not an anthropologist, but it seems there is always a mainstream and dissidents. Religions seems to be determined by: politics in India, politics in Europe, politics in USA, politics in China, politics in Russia, politics in the Middle East, politics in Africa. This was true in South America before the Europeans came. It was true in Japan. There is a mainstream always far as I can tell which is aligned with the ruling group, and then there are smaller dissident groups trying to set themselves apart.

What does "there own ranks" even mean? Which Christians have the power to control the thoughts and behaviors of other Christians? Which humans, even, have that power? None that I am aware of.

All any of us can do is try to control each other's actions, collectively, via our laws. And that's not a Christian problem, or a Christian responsibility. That's all of our problem and all of our responsibility. So I don't see why you're blaming the many Christians that do not seek to control or oppress anyone else (including their fellow Christians) for the relatively few and annoying Christians who do seek to do that. Except that you, personally, hold a resentment against Christians because of the way a few of them treated you.

Resentment is normal....Christians, Muslims, atheists, capitalists,
commies, Ameristanians, conservatives, liberals, homos....all are
resented by someone here....& most here resent one of those
groups. So the OP has a great opportunity to fit right in. And in
some of us, resentments have evaporated over time.

Sheesh? The ranks of shinto monks?... no? Take a guess then

If christianity does not want to clean up its own act then there's a problem right there. If they won't take responsibility for what christians do in the name of christianity, (well the bad bits anyway, they love to take collective responsibility for the good bits) then there's a problem right there.

I am not blaming all, just the bad apples and trust me, i have met far more bad apples than good ones.

Of course you don't want to understand that
