Russian Orthodox church music

Especially the bass voices nothing like the power and feeling they generate.

I don't know who has the best music, but I know it is NOT UUs.

Why are UUs the worst hymn singers?

Because they are always reading ahead to see if they agree with the next line.

hmm... maybe a bit biased here... but I think the best reliious music is Native American.

The big drum, the rattles and the singing... (my personal favorite is eastern style, you can hear all the words.. but northern is impressive for the pitch, very high and fast)
Flute music is also very wonderful... haunting and calming.

Some songs are just fun, like the mosquitio song where the drumers and the dancers compete to see who can go faster. :D

I've only really heard some christian rock bands & that's it, one of my favourite bands are a Christian rock band, though I'm not sure if they are a christian band or just a band that happens to all be christian (it's UnderOath by the way), there's also Kings-X.

I don`t know much about Mormon music but you`ve undoubtedly already heard quite a bit of atheistic music.

Here`s one of my favorites.

Imagine
Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

I tend to subscribe more to the secular tunes, but I am also partial to the music of the Celts. I guess that would attributed to the Druids and such. Christian Rock has pretty interesting ones as well. It's very easy to get lost in the energy of the music, a very good experience.

i agree with jensa- Hindu devotional music is especially beautiful.

but classic protestant hymns are also lovely. solemn yet uplifting.

i remmeber something George Carlin once said that made me smile: "the best thing to come out of religion was the music".

which resonated with me, as the only reason i agreed to continue going to church for years was an affection for the hymns.

Our choir sang that in church two Sundays ago! :)

Which religious group has the best music? Black Southern Baptists and Methodists by far! And anyone who disagrees is just wrong! ;) In fact, one of our church's music directors argues that the reason why Christianity has survived is because of its music. People kept coming to church to be bouyed by song and forget their troubles, even if they didn't necessarily agree with the theology. :p

I actually love a surprising amount of Christian music... E Nomine and Five Iron Frenzy are the two that come to mind right now.

But I love the pagan and nontheist music like APC, Tool, MSI, Skyclad...

Flaming Queer
Artist: Berlinda Carlisle Lyrics
Song: Heaven Is A Place On Earth

When the night falls down
I wait for you
And you come around
And the world's alive
With the sound of kids
On the street outside

When you walk into the room
You pull me close and we start to move
And we're spinning with the stars above
And you lift me up in a wave of love...

Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth ?
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
They say in heaven love comes first
We'll make heaven a place on earth
Ooh heaven is a place on earth

When I feel alone
I reach for you
And you bring me home
When I'm lost at sea
I hear your voice
And it carries me

In this world we're just beginning
To understand the miracle of living
Baby I was afraid before
But I'm not afraid anymore

Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth ?
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
They say in heaven love comes first
We'll make heaven a place on earth
Ooh heaven is a place on earth

Can anyone point me to any modern Christian Rock?

The last real taste of it I had was in the 80`s and Stryper just didn`t do it for me.
:)
I`m hoping it has "evolved".
