I mentioned in another thread that RF feels swamped by Remainers. Most of the Brits on here are pro-EU. I don't mind that; have your own opinions - but why is this place specifically housing so many? Where are all the British Brexiteers on here? I'm not looking for a Brexit argument; I want to know where all the British conservatives are. And while were at it, where are all the British crazy religious fundies like me? I've put this in political debates because it seems more a political issue to me.

Sometimes it's incredibly lonely and frustrating being on here, trying to form a community, when it feels everyone is mocking you because of the way you voted.

    CONSERVATIVE BRITS, WHERE ARE YOU?

    *Yells into the obvious void*

Apparently, most Brits in general are pro-EU. Only about 1 in 3 Brits still support Brexit:

Brexit opinion poll 2021 | Statista

Out of all the active members here, how many are British?
Out of them, how many are into talking about politics?
Whatever number you get, divide it by 3 and that should give you an indication of the number of Brits on here who will want to talk about supporting Brexit.

Yeah see this is the kind of crap that's needlessly posted on here about people who are just as human as you are. I've not said nasty things about Remainers. I get their arguments. I'm intimate with one. I don't grasp why there is this need to be so snarky and nasty to us.

My experience in this country is that more folks actually support it now ever since the EU's vaccine fiasco et al.

Somewhat bizarrely the more modern answer might be 'Margaret Thatcher', who is often held up as the UK's Ronald Reagan - but this isn't strictly true. She said that what we'd now call social conservative issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage etc. are 'matters of conscience' - that is, keep it your yourself and let others do their thing. She essentially tabled all debate on these issues. After this, we now have folks such as Tony Blair hiding his Catholicism while being PM as it would have made him almost unelectable, and Tim Farron former Lib Dem leader being scolded for being an out Christian.

It's a weird, extremely British kind of madness.

In my circle of friends and relatives. I have one relative by marriage who is a passionate conservative brexiteer. He majors in conspiracy theories, Republican Politics, and any thing far right, and is a retired banker.
Apart from that I know no one who would admit to being a Tory supporter or has anything good to say about Brexit.

On the brexit Front I suspect only a small proportion of Conservative voters still favour Brexit. and those that do are keeping very quiet about it, because they are uncomfortable admitting it, amongst the majority of people they might meet who are clearly pro European.

I do not think that many people now conflate the Covid and Brexit issues.

Recent events have shown that there is no obviously "Best" way to cope with the Covid situation.
Though pretty much every country are relying on vaccines as the major fight against it.

In terms of Right and left Politics. It would seem that few right wingers are socially aware. and would not see RF as a first choice destination for confirmation of their views.

I mentioned neither Corona nor Conservatives. I mentioned small c conservatives. Everyone in my family is a Brexiteer and two cannot stomach voting Tory. I would only call one a conspiracist, but he is also an alcoholic and obviously has bigger problems. My grandparents and mother aren't conspiracy nuts. My best friend isn't a conspiracy nut. Most of the folks I know are just people. I'm in East Yorkshire.

I doubt most care (or cared) about the EU that much either way. Most people have largely selfish reasoning behind their political decisions and so would have made their referendum choices based on which of the twos sides spin and lies they fell most for. The disadvantage for the victors is that their spin and lies are revealed by events while the losers can (and often have) keep them going.

I don't see why normal people would worry about the whole "Brexiteer vs Remainer" division now anyway. Brexit has happened already regardless and we're all in the same place trying to get the best out of it. Why encourage even more ongoing political division and conflict? We're not Americans after all. ;)

Conservative doesn't automatically equal Brexiteer of course (and vice-versa). Regardless, I suspect that the average British conservative (small-c or big-c) is probably less likely to be spending time on general political internet forums for various reasons (age, lifestyle, access, approach to politics etc.).

You'd still get mocked, you'd just be a bigger target. Wouldn't it be better to seek a more diverse and moderate community without predefined political positions and opinions where topics can be discussed openly and freely, without anyone being mocked (or at least everyone being mocked equally)?

Being conservative emphatically does not equate to supporting Brexit. Some people seem to have forgotten that Bozo and the Brexitters carried out a purge of the Tory party to get rid of all the Conservatives that didn't support it. I used to consider myself broadly conservative, if to the left of its centre of gravity - what used to be called a "Pink" or "One Nation" Tory. I felt people like Dominic Grieve, David Gauke, and to some extent David Cameron, thought roughly as I did. But the strident, Little Englander rump that the Tory party has now become does not represent my view of things in the least. So, as far as current UK conservatism is concerned, I'm gone. This may be true for others, too.

My suspicion is that the membership of this forum self-selects people who are interested in debating ideas. Such people are not likely to be Brexitters, it seems to me, as there doesn't seem to be much of an intellectual argument in favour of Brexit. Its appeal seems to be mainly emotional or psychological, as far as I can make out. You are thus a bit unusual.

My snarky comment wasn’t aimed at you, it was aimed squarely at our clown-car government. You know the ones - the Old Etonian spivs with their hands in the till, and their brains in their underpants.

Apologies if you are in fact Boris Johnson in disguise.

I certainly enjoy diversity of opinion, but that's not what I'm seeing here.

I care about it because Brexiteers are so routinely made fun of on here it's like they think we're not reading what they say. Like men making nasty jokes about women in the changing rooms because they can't hear them. It's as though we don't count.

I wasn't talking about the party; but I have found that most Brexiteers I know tend to be more socially conservative, which is why they voted the way they did (immigration etc.), so I am going on my personal experience of living in a heavy Leave area. I get that I'm possibly unusual being a 20-something socially conservative Brexiteer but it's like... come on, where are you all? Lol.

Tbf, I once knew this 18 y/o girl when I was 20/21 and she had no idea what an internet forum is. She only knew about social media sites such as Twitter.

Rival I'm sure if you were running the country you would do a better job. No one is getting at you.

But you have decided to align yourself with a bunch of idiots, for reasons best known to yourself. It is those idiots who are being rubbished - and that is not going stop as long as they are in charge.

Maybe they're in hiding with the real American conservatives that we're largely missing here?
