Good luck with the surgery, wishing you a speedy recovery.

Casablanca is the greatest movie ever made, no question.
Pulp Fiction runs it close though.

Two films stand out both for two very different reasons

The first was Metropolis which I saw at school in the late 40's It was a now lost original complete copy on 16mm.
it was shown to us over two evenings it was so long. the version available now is also rather long, but not extreme like the original.
It was so much of its time, though set in the far future. the style was 100% 1930's

The other film was a spoof western featuring Rosemary Clooney, completely Zany for the time 1954
I doubt any one now remembers it, most people hated it, they did not understand it at all. RED GARTERS.

I like campy movies. If they appeal to you as well, consider The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Harold and Maude, Freaks, Rocky Horror, A Serious Man, Being There, Being John Malkovich, and Ed Wood.

I also recommend philosophical movies like Groundhog Day (what if you could relive and correct your mistakes?), Total Recall (how can we decide which apparent reality is real?), Regarding Henry (how mental retardation helped a man become a better man and father), Charlie (the insight gleaned by a retarded man made temporarily normal).

Also, the best comedy: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Producers, most Python movies.

Here's two con men hustling a woman to whom one has proposed now trying to convince her that she might not like living in this household. I can't stop laughing whenever I see Steve Martin as Ruprecht the Monkey Boy. Maybe this would be a good choice for you:

Best wishes for surgery.

I'm not a movie fanatic, i watch very few movies really.

However, tomorrow i go into hospital for a few hours and envision being bored out of my skull. My idea is to buy a movie to download to my phone and maybe spend a couple of hours passing the time by watching it.

Please, would you be kind enough to name your all time favourite recommendation.

Nanny McPhee with Emma Thompson and Colin Firth. Completely soppy -- but so am I.
