I think there are no groups of people who believe in luck. To believe in luck is a personal decision.

I wonder if it has something to do with fear (anxiety).

We have evolved to see patterns in life even when there are no real patterns. Luck is just a result of this. We see a pattern of Good Luck or a Pattern of Bad Luck. Good and Bad are as subjective as luck so it quite easy for us to make up false patterns.

SC, you don't believe in luck? If so, please explain why a lottery winner is selected.

Because he/she won a game of a chance. Right? What are the chances that you can win a lottery? Do you think lottery is a game of stupidity?

Luck: the quality of having a better than average likelihood of getting one's own way.

Luck: the ability to interpret events in a positive light in order to increase one's sense of overall contentment.

Luck: the ability to use innate qualities, and available resources to give oneself the best possible advantage over others.

I don't think we ever mean a single thing when we talk about luck. People sometimes go off on the "power of positive thinking" tangent, and often overlook the cultural and economic circumstances that create luck. It's lucky to be born a white American male with money. I'm not lucky, but I do have some belief in luck.

I personally favor the maximum trajectory theory as discussed in "The Men Who Stare At Goats." I don't see this as typical positive thinking so much as making maximum use of luck types 2 and 3, so that one maintains the necessary energy to keep working toward a goal until a breakthrough occurs.

Yes, it is. But my point is that there is no other easy way to explain a person winning than by luck. How else can you explain it?

This is essentially a misunderstanding based on language, I believe.
