What has been your favourite country to travel in?
What has been your favourite country live in?

I've lived a somewhat insular North American life, looking to expand my horizons after I save up.

Your local anarchist.
I've been to a couple border towns on the Mexican side of the US/Mexico border. That's the extent of my international travels.

Carne Asada tacos are cheap and delicious.

My family and I had a wonderful time in China. Much too big to do it any justice in a two week visit, but quite enjoyed what we were able to see and do. The language barrier can pose some problems, especially outside of a major city. With Chinese writing being utterly different from the Western Roman alphabet, it is not like in Europe where you can still recognize place names and times on a bus schedule. We had the luxury of traveling with our daughter who had just finished her study abroad in China and served as our interpreter.

My grandfather visited China in the 80s and despite being a socially conservative anti-communist, had only good things to say about his travels.

I reckon I will go at some point in my life, it seems like one of the best candidates for Westerners who are looking to get immersed in another language, and not fall back on their English.

What destinations interest you?
I'd like to visit Iceland at some point in the near future. Reykjavik fascinates me and I'd like to live there for a short time.

I will likely visit Ireland to visit the family. I would like to visit Mexico as well, but to be honest I don't like driving through the USA so that's probably farther on the horizon.

Iceland seems amazing, extremely expensive though but I'd like to go if I could afford it

I'd never go to Mexico, too dangerous and lawless!

I've enjoyed a few countries, Japan was so different, really a culture shock. Indian was special, particularly swimming with whale sharks. I love Italy, Rome and Florence are wonderful, as is Venice (though it's pretty commercialised). We intended moving to live in Umbria but moved to France instead. Yes i love France too.

I spoke with some Icelanders visiting Ontario and they mentioned that Canadian inflation makes the Icelandic cost of living quite comparable for adults who do not have children.

Still seems pretty expensive as a tourist though, when I say 'near future' I pretty much mean sometime in late 2024 when my willpower drops enough to make an impulsive and irresponsible financial decision.

I'd like to go to one of those hot lakes they have, that are heated by the heat of planet Earth

Aside from a trip to Nassau back in '97 and a drive from Detroit, MI to Buffalo, NY through Canada, I've never been out of the US, though I've been just about everywhere in the US except New England and Pacific Northwest.

Though I'd have liked to see Australia and Scotland, I don't see any trips outside the States coming in this lifetime.

Yes Iceland is definitely one of the few still on my list. I’ve always been interested in volcanism.

France, probably. I have family connections there through my late wife, who was French, and I love the way of life and the countryside. The Germans have an expression “to live like a god in France”, and I think they are onto something.

Of course, the HOLY North American continent is the best. No where on the earth can a person travel and visit so freely.

From The Rocky's to death valley (Darwin), to the smoky's mountains down to the keys. There is not better place to travel, than North America.
