    And as I already stated:
Disagreement does not equate to not understanding.

Maybe what he believes is so compelling that disagreement is evidence that we don't understand it, because if we truly understood it, we'd be compelled to agree. ;)

Unfortunately there are loads of people who believe just that.

Now THAT, my friends, is genuine double talk.

I don't know if I'm the first (as I haven't caught all the way up with the thread), but let me proclaim that I definitely don't "get it".

I honestly don't think you have said anything yet - in this entire thread.

Only if you don't know the difference between counterfeit money and real money.

It's easy to say one understands, but responses, when not dismissive, are concept-bound. They express an inability to recognize the difference between "true religion" and religions that are true--the former being proportional to the potential (the measure of religiosity), latter being relative to the actual (things as they are).

I'll give it one last shot.

Can you, or can you not, help me to understand how someone can "grasp a notion" for which there is no "idea".

Perhaps we could start by having you distinguish between a "notion", and an "idea".

I'm old enough to know the difference between intellectual discussion of cogent ideas, and equivocating double talk with no base in reality.

You've got a point, but if you comb your straw just right, no one will notice. Oh snap... are you doing that now??? :D

    I thought not.

Basically, you are admitting that your post is just inane drivel, with no real meaning.

Or, at least, no meaning that you can't skew beyond reason in a following post.

Again - help me to understand how someone can "grasp a notion" for which there is no "idea".

If you can't even explain your own post, why on earth do you think anyone else would bother?

This is only an assumption based on what has been said in this thread and others, along with the fact that the condition I will describe is quite common.

It would seem that he thinks he's had some sort of epiphany, or enlightening experience which has opened up some "truth" to him that he thinks he understands and that most other people do not.
So to keep that "truth" seeming all the more mysterious, and to keep his place as the keeper of that "truth" all the more special and important, he'll only speak about his "truth" in riddles and semi-mystical logia.
If in fact he's developed this condition, then consciously he'll believe he does so to appeal only to "the elect" - those people who may also have acquired his "truth" and so will naturally understand what he's saying. But in reality it's actually about the stroking of his ego and boosting the sense of spiritual superiority.

Like Mestemia, I think you may be on to something, Halcyon.

The one thing that I know for certain - Rolling Stone isn't conversing with us in any language that I understand.

... and the more I hear of his language, the more I realize that I'm not interested in learning it, either.

Is it possible for this thread to trigger the atheist to grasp what they previously did not grasp? In what way can this expand the atheist's conciousness?

It is true that I don't grasp the meaning of the OP. However, that doesn't tell me that there is anything there to grasp. I'm left with no motive to bias my curiosity in this direction over any other.
