What Are Your Favorite Horror Movies? (Recommendations Needed!)

I've been binge-watching horror movies for about a month now. Out of the 22 movies I've watched so far, my favorites are It (the remake) and A Quiet Place. As far as scariness goes, I think Annabelle: Creation is the best.

What are your favorite horror movies? I asked for recommendations here a while back and have since watched a lot of them, so I'm going to list the ones I've watched along with short notes about what I thought of them to get new recommendations. :D

- Annabelle. (Both parts. The first was bad, but the second was the scariest I've watched so far, as already mentioned.)

- The Babadook. (Amazing story and allegory. Loved it.)

- The Conjuring. (Both parts. Found them moderately creepy, at least for supernatural horror.)

- Dead Silence. (Absolute, painfully cliched garbage.)

- Hereditary. (Top-notch production. Very twisted and disturbing without cliched jump scares or the like.)

- Insidious. (Only the first two, though. I found both underwhelming and boring.)

- It. (Great movie all around, not just as a horror one.)

- It Follows. (Creepy with a decently allegorical story. Was okay.)

- Last Shift. (Creepy but turned out to be underwhelming toward the end.)

- Lights Out. (Jack of all trades. Great but not amazing.)

- The Mist. (Extremely distressing. Was nice.)

- The Omen. (The original, not the remake. Found it atrociously boring and uninspired.)

- Ouija: Origin of Evil. (Okay-ish but a bit too cliched and in your face.)

- Quarantine. (Distressing. Nothing special about it, though.)

- A Quiet Place. (Absolutely beautiful. Loved it.)

- The Ring. (The remake, and found it extremely disappointing.)

- The Ritual. (Only very slightly creepy. Nothing special.)

- Scream. (Engrossing and well done.)

- The Witch. (Underwhelming and has no real scares to speak of.)

Movies like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (it's been redone at least once) and The Hills Have Eyes feature unsuspecting travelers making a wrong turn and ending up isolated and victimized by maniacal killers - often mutant or deformed.

The Saw and Hostel series of movies and sequels were all pretty gruesome.

I liked the Hellraiser movies. They're not too scary, but still pretty good.

I find horror shows funny. Maybe I'll try this Annabelle: Creation.

I've pretty much stopped watching horror. It annoys the other people when you LOL during the horror scenes.

I prefer comedy horror, the standard horror equation just get's old after a while, here's a few.

Rubber (2011)
Juan of the dead
What we Do in the Shadows
Black Sheep (2006)

If you don't mind a series and like campy gore, then Ash vs Evil Dead is brilliant. If you prefer films then I personally find Re-animator to be the gold standard of campy fun.

Martyrs (the original French version) is probably the best of the "torture porn" genre. I found it genuinely disturbing.

The Innkeepers is a very slow burn but enjoyable and creepy.

You might also want to have a look into Masters of Horror. The episodes vary wildly in quality but there are some real gems in there. I'd personally recommend: Fair-Haired Child, Cigarette Burns, Family and Right to Die.

Edit: Oh, also have a look at Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. I'm not always the biggest fan of mockumentaries or slashers but this one pulls off both.

The new Halloween was pretty good.
You should watch Suspiria at least once. Not only is it a classic, but there is apparently a remake coming out in a few weeks. It's one of my favorite horror movies, and I only heard about the remake yesterday.
Fun fact about Suspiria, by the way; the actors all spoke different languages, and it was dubbed in English during post-production.
